The guys I'd be more worried about at the moment are Gaz Carvell and Ben Harrison.'"
Yed, is the 4 year contract Morley signed looking like it was too long or do you reckon he can still do a job ?
Agree re Carvell on his game he is a very good prop

I'm inclined to agree. I have always conformed to the theory that your overseas players to both justify their wage packets & a place above an English player must be one of the best players in your squad and one of the best players in their respective positions in Super League. Ryan Hoffman epitomizes exactly that. Jeff Lima is being pushed very hard with Paul Prescott and Lee Mossop performing so well, but the bloke is a New Zealand international whose played around 100 games for a top NRL side. I expect more and I think we will definitely see more. It's only been three Super League games from him so far and each week he has approached the 100 meter mark, which is good, but once the grounds have hardened up & he has had a few more games I hope we can see him make that 100 meter per game target. A lot more responsability is on his shoulders with Stuart Fielden out for the next 3-4 months. However, I definitely think Madge sees him as more of an impact player off the bench.
He missed out on the chance to play in the WCC challenge and the only real big game he has played in so far for us (St.helens Millenium Magic) he was very good. He got a positive rapport from the Wigan fans - and Warrington fans to be fair - in the pre-season game against Warrington. I look forward to seeing how he goes against one of the best packs in the league.

Harrison is a whatever is available in the pack except hooker player
Majority of the time loose forward but been known to do stints at prop and 2nd row. Very hard working like Westwood and like Westwood looks buggered after about 5 minutes yet never is.

Oh he still does a very good job, just why burn him out when you don't need to.
He's still the best prop we have but he's just had a couple of knocks.

Excellent stats from Wood. I'll cast a keen eye on him on Friday.

I think we have a tendency in SL to over-hype the "big name" props and ignore those who get on with the job equally as well.
For example Wood at Wire, who gets overlooked because of Morley/Carvell, and Prescott at wigan (Fielden/Coley/Lima).
Same goes for Paul Clough at Saints who I think has been immense for us for a couple of years nowhttps://www.superleague.co.uk/statistics_player.php?hs1

Again very good stats from Clough.(Although he has played a game more than Prescott)
To be fair you've needed him to step up. You've continually been down a prop this year, in either Perry or LMS.

| Not sure how useful comparing the stats of props from different teams is, especially after only a few games this season, but comparing them to players from the same team should give a decent indication of who is on form, but even then it's early days and stats will be a bit skewed.
Morley, for example, missed the majority of the game against Saints after picking up a knock and so will have lower stats than expected. Prescott is strong defensively but his tackles made will be lower considering he made fewer tackles than usual because we were attacking much more when he was on the pitch.
At the end of the day it boils down to who performs better on the night rather than who matches up in the stats. Mossop posted fantastic stats against Huddersfield but that's irrelevant if he doesn't back it up against Wire.
As it stands in terms of stats our props can be a little inconsistent, sometimes it just depends on who plays during which parts of a game. If we play more expansive rugby when Coley is on the pitch and score lots of tries he's going to produce poorer stats compared to Lima if he was to come on when the game is tighter and more of a forward battle.
All that matters is that our props play at their best and do what's necessary to aid the team.

| Quote: Deano G "As are Lee Mossop's statshttps://www.superleague.co.uk/statistics_player.php?hs1
Prescott and Mossop have had a great start to the season. Lima isn't doing anything wrong, it's just that Prescott and Mossop are doing very well indeed, as are The Hoff and Lockers, who are both in superb form.
Friday is going to be a cracker.'"
I have for a long time said that Lockers is over-rated. I still think he was a few years ago. I am delighted to say though that he has improved considerably as of late. He has cut (most) of the stupid mistakes from his game and has become a very solid player for us now.
I also think that the "burden" of the captaincy was too much for him when he was younger. The sharing of the responsibility last year clearly helped his game and this year he looks much more comfortable as captain.
The Hoff looks like a fantastic signing in the David Furner mold.

| I can't help but think we're overhyping Lima a bit too much. Let him find his feet and knock a few teams about before you start talking about him dominating the second best prop in the comp

He has made a good start and I have no doubt he will improve.
