Quote: thepriestman85 "Terry Newton is and always will be a Wigan legend imo.

Regardless of how his career ended i can't but look back fondly over his time at Wigan. I’d argue that Newton was the biggest loss off all the players like Lam, Faz and even Radders as he was smack bang in the middle of his prime and was proving to be a world class hooker and fierce competitor.

Whilst other players like KFC were having hot smoke blown up their ar$e$ by Eddie and Stevo Newton was easily outplaying him for a good few seasons but without any of the hype and not receiving the club GB money either!

I’d take a 25 year old Newton over a 25year old KFC any day.

I'll be buying his book the day it comes out.'"

icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif The guy was always second best to KC , differing styles of play but Newton always let himself down with his thuggery. As for being a proven world class hooker I'm afraid your deluded.

I've seen some real Wigan legends play and he definetly isnt one of them.

He made a mistake.

It shouldn't wipe out all the positive things about his career - he was a great player for Wigan and he evidently loved the club. He was half the player at Bradford than he was at Wigan and I believe a lot of that boiled down to him not having the same passion for the cause.

However, saying that HGH use is rife and then not naming names is certainly not an admirable move.

Quote: Wigan/Leeds Andy "The most overused word in sport for me.

Newton shouldn't be used in the same breath as true legends like Boston, Edwards, Hanley, Sullivan.'"

Why not?

Was his passion for Wigan not equal 2 the above mentioned? Very few players match Newton in this area and certainly players like Hanley don't.

He's certainly up there with the best #9's in the clubs history.

What do you need 2 be a Wigan legend?

Albeit for an admittedly small part of his career (probably around 03/04) Newton in my opinion was the better player of the two and certainly could class himself amongst the world's best.

How about you back onto your own board and blow some more smoke up KFC rear end.

Wigan aren't the ones building a statue in Newtons image so Saints fans can hardly talk.

You seriously want to compare Newton against the four I mentioned? Not only legends of Wigan but legends of the game. There's loads more who I would name as a Wigan "legend" (who actually aren't) before I got anywhere close to naming Newton. Good player for us yes, legend - no.

Quote: thepriestman85 "In your opinion of course.....'"

Of course. And I stand by it every step of the way.

Quote: thepriestman85 "Lets see how many of the moral majority on here won't be buying shirts with Hock on the back of them in 12 months or saying ‘every one deserves another chance’.'"

I won't be putting his name on a shirt, as I never have player names on my shirts.
I *WILL* however be saying that Hock deserves a second chance (for reasons stated below)

Quote: thepriestman85 "Taking a growth hormone and trying to return quickly from a bad injury is in no way shape or form as bad or as stupid as what Hock did imo.'"

Bullshot.
Gareth Hock took a RECREATIONAL DRUG, which was never intended to improve performance.
This drug can be related to alcohol in terms of effect on the person involved.

Terry Newton admits to taking a drug SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO CHEAT.
He took it as a method of reducing his recovery time from injury.
This drug is more in line with substances such as Stanozolol (steroids).

In my opinion, anybody taking a performance enhancing drug (without good reason - After all, Asthma medication is performance enhancing), should be banned for life from the sport, no matter their current age.

Users of drugs such as Cocaine, Marijuana, etc. (including heavy alcohol use) should be rehabilitated via "drying-out" clinics, possibly along with a short (1-3 month) ban.

If they repeat the offense, then they should be made to repeat the drying-out and banned for 6 months to 1 year for sheer stupidity/bloody-mindedness.

Quote: thepriestman85 "Like I said I’ll be getting his book the day it comes out and I can’t wait to read his bio.'"

If that's what you want to spend your money on, Mrs Newton, that's fine.

Quote: thepriestman85 "Why should Newton have to spill the beans?

Or would you rather stay in denial that this doesn't happen?'"

Are you for real?
You contradicted yourself in 2 sequential questions.

It is precisely because I DON'T want to "stay in denial", and because I'm almost positive that other players DO use this stuff that I would ask Newton to "put up or shut up".

He *CLAIMS* to know of other players who are cheating, *CLAIMS* to know numbers and *CLAIMS* to have names (at least one, as he has stated that he bought his first batch from a fellow player).

What he then fails to do is to help the sport that he claims to love by rooting out the cheats that are dragging the game down.

He should made to reveal these other players (if he isn't just dreaming them up for publicity) if he wants his ban to expire in 2 years. Otherwise he should be banned for life from having any capacity within any RL club (Professional or Amateur).

I know that my opinions are just that, and that some people won't agree with them, but for me it's idiots like Newton, claiming to "know" things, but unwilling to share them, who are causing damage to our sport even AFTER they've been banned from it.

Even your fellow pie eaters think your nuts. KC is a real club legend at Saints hence he's gettting the statue, Newton was a good player for Wigan nothing more.

Oh btw Hock was a moron Newton is a cheat .. big difference

How do you know that though? Just because he says so doesnt make it true. Drug cheats in a wide range of sports have said similar things when caught just to get a little sympathy. He could have been taking them for far longer for all anyone knows.

Also he took performance enhancing drugs which he thought were undetectable and so believed he could cheat without anyone knowing. This was to improve his game. I am no fan of Hock but he took recreational drugs which were not an attempt to cheat on the rugby field. This is a big difference in my opinion and what Newton did is far, far worse.

Talk of him being a Wigan legend is just laughable, he wasnt that good a rugby player and he wasnt fit to tie the boots of true Wigan legends.

The only legendary thing Newton ever did was his breaking of Long's face, but that really doesn't qualify him as "a legend" (other than perhaps a legendary thug).

Of course you're entitled to your opinion but I reall couldn't disagree more about Newton v KFC. I'd have cunningham over Newton everytime at any age. Even now Cunningham is running the show at saints. As for Newton being a legend? I have to agree with Wigan/Leeds andy on this. A good player? Yes but let himself down on many an occasion with acts of thuggery. The one on long sticks in my mind. There's no room for that in our game from any player at any level.

He was my favourite player above Rads and Farrell when he played.

Gutted when he left and when he did he was never the same player.

Terry Newton 2001 - 2004 was a best hooker in Superleague 'IMO', athough I didn't watch the game in the same detail as I do now I still think regardless of what he did he was a fantastic player in his day.

I guess it’s each to their own but a player trying to return quicker from injury via enhancers isn’t as bad as a recreational drug user imo.

You can see why the player took the drug and with short careers I can understand it.

What Hock did is almost unforgivable as it served no purpose or benefit to himself or the team.
