As I remember it SW was not a full time employee of Wigan his main employment being a fairly senior management position with Tarmac. This was why he took a large pay cut to become Assistant Coach and maybe a reason he is widely regarded as having good man management skills.

This is one reason I would NOT want him at Wigan.

He's got a face like a smacked a**e and a permanent shoulder stoop from the size of the chip that sits on it.

I'm not saying that can't be rectified - and I'm not saying he isn't good at what he does - but when he's lost, he's one of the worst sulkers in the competition.

That was even the case 15 years ago when we beat Leeds in the 2003 playoffs - can't see it being rectified now if it hasnt been already.

Express frustration by all means - god knows how many times Wane has done it - but dont walk off in a sulk. Looked a right tit.

Its a long shot, but maybe he'll be different outside of the Cas environment? Let's face it the place is toxic when it comes to this kind of blame others mentality. The culture there screams to me of people that can't responsibility for thier own actions. There's always someone else to blame & rather than facing up to the fact they aren't good enough they'll look for any other excuse.

Let's not beat around the bush though, Bennett & Edwards vs Powell is a no brainer in regards to who Wigan fans would want to see.

Bennett and Edwards would be the ultimate coaching combo for Wigan, but perhaps for that reason alone, it feels like a pipedream to me.

To avoid tempting fate, I don't even want to join in the speculation. Too many painful memories of when Maurice told us we'd landed a top Aussie scrum-half. Everyone assumed it was Brett Kimmorley, and the place went into meltdown - then it turned out to be Dennis Moran.

Don't think he's under pressure as such - just ticked off at coming down to earth with a bump after last season.

That also, I think, must cast his coaching credentials in a different light.

Cas were awsesome last season, but they enjoyed a near injury-free run, while right up until the business end the teams you'd have expected to challenge them were dire. And after all that, they still only won one trophy. It's a trophy that I think should be regarded more highly than it is, but it's also a trophy that is won over a succession of games. It does not rely on victory in a single, high-pressure, do-or-die match. When that was demanded of Powell's Cas, they flunked.

In addition to all that ... where are they now?

When they murdered us at home near the end of last season, I thought they played like one of the best teams I'd seen in the Super League era. A mate of mine said 'that was like watching Wigan in the early 90s', and I had to agree. But with that degree of excellence, it should not have been a one-season wonder. Even without Zak Hardaker, they should still be dominating the league.

Not sure about Powell at all, I'm afraid.

Whats the old saying "a yorkshire coach will never work at Wigan" If powells antics ar anything to go by then Cas can keep him or put a road block on access routes to Lancashire

Better than that....my lad has a large Wigan RL poster board from the old Central Park days, includes an announcement and profile photo of Wendell Sailor of his signing and due to join us in 1999.

Seems like a lot of Wigan fans would have liked to see Cas crash and burn this season. I always said they'd be there or thereabouts, and I still fancy them for top 4 place (all the more so with Leeds apparently underperforming); you don't become a bad team overnight. But they are now finding out it's not easy to cope when you lose your 7 and 1.

I can't believe the club would go for Powell, anyway.

The ref was crap but Saints were far better than us to put it another way.

The only decision that the officials got wrong was giving a try to Cas that never was.

I rate Powell highly I like. the style of play his teams put out, but no I just don't see him ever coming to Wigan.
