If there are no fans and no sugar daddy chairperson then instead of struggling for ever and a day just bow out gracefully history, emotions or not.'"
Next season's budget (already approved by the RFL) will see us operate on a self-sustaining basis without any donations from directors and obviously no TV money, despite having to move games to Thursday nights for TV coverage which in turn affect the gate receipts hugely.
As for the current situation, I don't think many people would have been in a position to predict that Arthur Thomas' company would go bust as a result of being a creditor of another company that went in to liquidation and having to withdraw his support from the club as a result. The wages have been paid up until September but with no fixtures since then, there isn't enough money left in the pot to pay the rest of the players contracts, hence the current fundraising efforts.
Sad set of circumstances that Leigh RL are making a huge effort to learn from and hopefully other clubs will do the same if they have any sort of reliance on a benefactor 'topping up' their income streams.
