Glad you missed the important bit of that. The bit where you seem to think Wigan is better than Paris or why else would you ignore that part?
The point was that Hoffman would be finishing his holiday on a low visiting Wigan's many many many tourist spots. Especially when compared with the places i mentioned. Would you go on your holiday in Wigan (if you didn't live there)?'"
Paris is indeed a wonderful city. The city is full of world famous attractions compared to Wigan. Trying to compare if Paris is better than Wigan is not a great example. It all depends where you are in those locations. Try asking a resident of Paris in one of the gutter estates if they enjoy living there. The traffic in Paris is just chaotic and dangerous. I'm not saying Wigan is better, but Paris, once you've left the attractions is as big a poop hole as any other large city.
I visited Wigan for a short break, and must admit that certain parts were awful. King Street still bore the aftermath of people drinking and eating kebabs to excess with vomit drying on the pavement.(again probably no different to any other town at a weekend).
There are some lovely places in Wigan - The canals, Haigh Hall, the DW stadium !!
Plus Wigan does better pies than Paris
