Why not? Dream team isn't voted for by the players so I'm not sure why it has any relevance.

The dream team is made up of players who the press think have been the best in those positions all season.
The MOS is for the player who has been the most effective in helping his team throughout the year.

For some reason had it in the back of my mind that it was.

wasn't this a furore last year, that the dream team was announced and then the 3 nominees came out for mos, moz, hodgy and i think it was graham, though i can't imagine him not being in the dream team last year.

Everyone was asking the same question, how can he be nominated when he's not in the team of the year.

All New zealanders are on the quota. Samoan or Tongan or Cook Island (etc) passport-holders aren't. It's on the passport, not the ethnicity. Maori do not come under Kolpak because they are New Zealanders not citizens of Pacific Island nations.
