Anywhere else on the side line they can play it while in the air, so as long as their feet are off the ground, even if the ball is out of play, it can be kept alive. It seems bizarre that a try could be chalked off if the flag is touched during the action of touching down whilst in mid-air.

I must be getting old but it's already been done, in the 70's, i think by New Hunslet as they were then called. I believe the posts got banned as they didn't conform to the RFL specifications.
