| Quote Mr Potato Head="Mr Potato Head"The biggest mistake was not to re-sign Dobson. Dobson and Sam Tomkins with Leuluai at hooker would have meant no need to sign Smith and Riddel. Phelps and Mathers were awful signings. Karl Pryce? Time will tell. Roberts shows great promise and look our best signing.'" WE should have got Dobson as a priority , and kept colborn instead of Mathers and for much less, ok maybe not the best but great attitude and work rate always took the dirt ball in on his own 20.

| Quote warriorweed="warriorweed"I disagree with this, in my opinion these two are not the problem signings because imo both these players add quality to the side. The two who should not have been re signed are Phelps and Mathers as they should be 3rd choice at best.'"
Im not saying they are not quality but would bringing through our young players not be better in the long run?
We would be doing alot better now if we had a world class prop like big petro and a world class 6 like Barrett.

| Quote Mother Feka="Mother Feka"J Tomkins - Picked because O'Loughlin was injured last year.
Goulding - Bit of an iffy one - was already gettin first team games when nobby was here
Prescott - He's 23!!
S Tomkins - Picked because Micky Mac was banned
Ainscough - Picked because Phelps is injured and Mathers was banned, lets face it if mathers only got one match ban we wouldnt have seen ainscough yet.
O'Carroll - Ill give you that one O'Carroll has come on leaps and bounds since nobby came.'"
can you give me an example of another coach bringing more through the ranks without any injuries/suspensions being involved?
The fact is you need a bit of luck to get your chance as a young kid (unless you are exceptional, but not many of those come around every year). But sticking with them once they get their chance is a sign of trust and in my eyes means he has brought some young kids through.
That said, Noble does like he's tried and trusted players (Think Withers) but if a youngster proves his worth Noble is often loyal to them as well

Agree with that, I would love to have Colbon in the squad instead of Mathers. Centres are more important than wingers and I would rather have a world class centre with Colbon on the wing that a winger with and average centre.

-----------------
Hansen Feka Pryce Riddell

| Quote ROBINSON="ROBINSON"McGuire returned, who at the time was far inferior to Pryce, as both results and performance proved beyond any doubt whatsoever. McGuire also did not gel with Sean Long, whereas Pryce had a world class combination going with Long.
So, yes, my argument is very convincing.'"
Isn't McGuire younger than Pryce thus putting a hole in your original statement re not giving young players a chance?

| Quote jonh="jonh"Each you player needs handling differently, there is no right or wrong in this debate, there is no set model for every young player, each player needs bringing through and developing at a rate solely specific to them. quote
I totally agree.
I'd add that where Wigan have got it wrong in recent years is not handling the off the field issues that adversely affect some young players (I'm not talking Sean Long here BTW). At 16 to 18 years of age, some of these kids are the main bread winners in their family, bringing-up younger siblings etc and, therefore, face serious off the field pressures - some of these kids are now first team players at other SL clubs.
