| There were a couple behind us who were first timers. They knew nothing about RL yet somehow found out about the game as they lived nearby. They even did a bit of their own research and were well aware of our plight. Incredible eh.

I was saddened not to see a bloke holding up a sign "No fans, No Broncos".

The £5 a ticket would have helped.........here's your benchmark
First SL game at Griffin Park 4,200+ with a £5 ticket offer to Brentford Fans
First SL game back at the Stoop 8,000+ with FREE entry to Union ST holders

Were each of those moves straight after a possible administration and extinction of the club, which subsequently put people off by the constant battering in the press and social medias before the club even set foot in Edgware?
Or on the same day as an England Rugby International against Ireland at home?

However, TR put out an uncompetitive squad who were well beaten by opposition that was clearly of a different class, and so the long downward slide commenced.

You forgot the dog ate your homework
My post was in direct response to the comment about the number of Barnet FC fans in attendance. The opening game of the season in a new ground is relevant, regardless of the farcical goings on since September last year. Barnet fans (or Quins in 2006 when we'd come out of administration at the end of the 05 season) were invited to come and see something new.....they were offered tickets for a fiver and turned up in their "dozens".
Polish the turd all you like, just don't expect it to shine!

England International to stop Ireland to win a 6 Nations Grand Slam and a Barnet away game in Wrexham. No polishing, just there in plain sight of the situation of the first day.

"People use statistics the way a drunk uses a lamp post - for support not illumination": |
|
| I guess the title of this thread sums me up. I've decided to give a reasonable account based on comparisions to going to the Hive for football.
So, I treated the day like a normal trip to the Hive to see footy, parked on Honeypot Lane 2:40 and did the 10min walk to the ground. The walk in was a massive difference, no other people walking to the ground, no traffic on Camrose Avenue and no cars waiting to turn into the carpark. The members carpark is normally full on a matchday (150 cars) but on Sat there was 10-20 cars max. I texted the mates I was meeting that the place seemed dead.
Entered the ground and the contrast was huge, crowd looked a reasonable and was buzzing, it was also fairly amusing having stewards trying to direct me to my seats. The six of us Barnet fans all sat in our Barnet members seats just below the temporary timer and the scoreboard that was obviously new and hadnt been there for our game on Tuesday.
Getting a Beer and bringing it back to your seat was a new experience. Home Bar was reasonably busy so we wandered round to the away bar (through the back of the Home bar and turn right) which was empty and got served immediately, I suspect most were unaware that there is second bar).
Enjoyed the game, whilst I can't claim to understand it all I could see that there was some skill on show, apart from a few occasions where Salford broke through the Bronco line I couldn't see a lot of difference and some of the kicking from Broncos caused Salford lots of problems yet Broncos dealt with Salfords kicks comfortably. The crowd was very vocal and having home and away fans mixed in made the atmosphere very different. We didn't take the game seriously and it was nice to watch something where you arent emotionally attached to the result, a mate shouting for the guy to get the ball back after kicking it out of the stadium and me voting for the physio as man of the match pretty much summed us up as being there to enjoy the occasion. I must admit we were distracted by what was happening in Wrexham where the result did matter to us.
Afterwards the bar was lively, nice touch when fans demanded the rugby union game on the tele so they could slag off union.
I will definitely go back fo a couple more games during the season, I know a fair number of Barnet fans who didnt go Sat due to Barnet playing and rugby on the TV but intend to go at some point, probably after the football season has ended.

Great to hear about your positive experience at The Hive watching London Broncos. Agree about people being away on the first day due to free International Rugby on TV and Barnet at Wrexham.
The jeering when it came on in the bar was funny, but I think it was more because the Salford fans wanted to watch the Man Utd Red Devils. Plus, it didn't help that the channel switched to Leeds born Danny Care scoring a cracker, lol.
Really pleased to hear you will be coming again with mates. Spread the joy!
