| I finally got round to booking our train down from sunny Warrington yesterday, leaving bright and early at 0640. I've been looking forwards to this for some time, can anyone advise viz a viz pubs etc and what the ground is like?
Thanks in advance.

| Gillingham is a toilet. A mate, who lived in Hull a while back, asked me why we played Hull there last year. I told him it was to make the Hull fans feel at home.

simpsons/017.jpg Welcome Quins Kitties born 02.04.09 -
Purdo - Determined, loveable with a "can-do" attitude. A born leader.
Louie - Big, white and fluffy. A very noisy prop forward.
Harley- Cute and gorgeous (just like our no.9) Well, I couldn't call her Chad, could I?
Update on Quins Mogs :-
Purdo - deffo leader amongst Mogs. The Capo.
Louie - turned out to be more like Louie Spence than LMS. Re-named Judas.
Harley - Cute but not as gorgeous as our no.9.
Oh well, at least I haven't got a Willy.:simpsons/017.jpg |

| Couldn't find any decent pubs near the ground, last year (and unlikely that this will have changed, sadly).
However, the ground is decent enough and there is a nice bar in the ground too.
Seems likely that Wire fans will outnumber Londons by some way, on the basis that most on here don't want anything to do with Gillingham and we support a team that lost its mojo about 8 years ago, sadly.

| The Bar at the stadium is accessible from Redfern Avenue so don't need to go through turn-styles.

| Ganson's Optician take not notice the Gillingham ground is quite good and no were near as bad as some may attempt to make it out to be!
Don't stay here too long on the forum as you will end up thinking of cutting your writs reading the take on life by some, no wonder our attendances are dropping.

| We're debating staying over for the night, is there any nightlife in or around Gillingham or would we best staying elsewhere and just travel in for the game?
Cheers.

I can understand the frustration to be honest, I think I would be frustrated if one of our games was moved to Stoke or some other nondescript town. To be honest though for me it is a chance to watch RL in a town which I will otherwise never visit, so looking forwards to it. As it seems Gillingham doesn't have much to offer we will probably go to Baker Street for a couple of hours first (I don't really know anywhere else!).
Hopefully we will take a few down between us and a few locals will go along to see what RL is all about. A bit of sunshine would be nice too!

Genuinely nothing in the Medway towns. Stay in London and get the train in and out for the game.

Well look how Few Saints fans were willing to travel to Widnes, never more than 6,000 for a full season and it is only 10 miles? I have hated some of the grounds we have played on over the years none more so than Crystal Palace National Sports Centre! but the problem in London is land costs to have you own stadium were you are in full control of your destiny, but getting the right area is such a problem!

'Never more than 6,000' even though they averaged well over 7,000? Check your statistics before making a fool of yourself.

| Frog and Toad on Burnt Oak Terrace is a decent pub to the North of Gillingham station, and is probably over a mile from the ground. Not really suitable if anyone requires access though.
Rochester is part of Medway, two rail stops from Gillingham. Plenty of decent pubs either just by the Castle and Cathedral (Kings Head, Coopers Arms, George Vaults) or even a couple along the High Street towards Chatham. A few good restaurants in Rochester as well and plenty of Charles Dickens history. About 8 trains an hour between the two stations and £2.50 for a single.
As for nightlife generally not so sure. A night club in Strood (Passions) but lord only knows what it's like.
Chatham, well possibly a source of the term Chav, but does have a few historical attractions (Dockyard, Dickens Museum, Royal Engineers Museum, Fort Amherst, Outlet centre) and there are a few good pubs if you know where to look.

Really? How does it compare to say, somewhere like Twickenham or Richmond for things to do, bars to visit and places to stay?
