“They’ve done it without any moaning, haven’t tried to cut corners and are playing off the same salary cap yet at least £300,000 of London’s cap goes on accommodation alone; a player getting paid £90,000 up north goes down London for £110,000.
“Times that by 25 squad members and it’s a fair old whack you’re not spending on the quality of player.”
.....is food for thought........do the RFL really care??'"
Looks like things have are even more expensive than we thought.
It always used to be said that we had a 22 man salary cap to everyone elses 25 as we had players living in London costing us around an additional £8k a year just to live in the capital. This would see us 3 players short when recruiting as the average wage is around £65k to £70k and still paying the full cap.
Essentially we have a reduced cap and it looks like the accomodation bill is even higher then we as fans had been led to believe.
Surely we must be pushing for the increase with special dispensation as we can certainly do with three SL quality players to replace our average squad players.
Is DH prepared to argue the case, or even have the interest to offer up the additional London weighting to bring in better players under a higher London cap.
I cannot for one minute see the likes of Cas saying yeah let London have an increased cap to allow for the FACT that London does cost more to live in. Hopefully the SL brings in a rule similar to one proposed (not sure in brought in) and that was the marquee player allowance, one or possibly more who are exempt or not fully counted against the cap.
Were I serious about the Broncos making an impact in their new locale in 2014 I would be concluding that deal now and liasing with the RFL to see about the changes to the cap for 2014, with a London weighting and a marquee allowance a very serious point made in force by the likes of Hughes, Lenagan, Koukash, Moran, Steve O'Connor, etc who should all get behind an increased cap and could conceivably give evidence to back us to follow the logical conclusion to a reasoned argument by someone on the London Broncos board.
