What are people's thoughts on this? Would a two-tier super league (with us presumably in the second tier) consign us to the dustbin?
Not entirely sure how we'd survive with a smaller slice of TV money and no big teams visiting.
I've no idea how feasible the idea is to the RFL.

| At the moment the league is very much like a 2 tier system. Once a team is not going to make the top 8 there is no incentive left and this shows in some of the games I have seen at LB. It was better in the days of relegation which I believe should still be part of a future structure. The license has been a joke given recent issues over the bulls and crusaders and no real difference in team who keep dominating the SL. I am all for a change maybe a two tear structure is the answer.

| My over-riding thought of this 'idea' is
Let's not kid ourselves, this isn't two tiers, it is two seperate divisons which will have completely different budgets and level of exposure. The second 'tier' would not be able to operate on a professional level. The game struggles to support the number of clubs that it has as it is.
To introduce relegation simple to act as an 'incentive' is bananas. If a team does not play well at the beginning or middle of the season, then tough. I don't disagree with promotion and relegation but only in the right circumstances (i.e. if there are plenty of teams that are ready to step in and replace relegated teams in a sustainable fashion).
This idea belongs with all the other crazy plans that some of the posters on the Virtual Terrace come up with, tinkering with the game and the sport itself simply because that nasty team Leeds keep winning and their team can't.

| In a system that possibly won't come in until 2015 and certainly not before 2014 we have at least one or two years to get the act together. I don't think consignment to a second tier would be necessarily true. Though that tends to indicate how depressed people are with the current situation at the club. How would entry to the tiers be agreed, league position in any given year is most likely from the current SL teams and selection of a few expected names to make up the number. I would also suspect a second French team would be on the cards.
Does it make any sense? Well that depends on the money involved and how professional the second tier is. If tier two is no better off than the Championship then just a fancy dressing to the restructure. Also what the TV screening approach is would be interesting. Two games from tier one and one from tier two each week? Could be quite attractive. For us if not in tier one think that might be the end of it given the financial position. At least I can the Sky subscription a miss.

| Two-tier Super League is a nonsense. Only the top tier would be Super. What do you call the next? Sub-super? Rubbish.
And this so-called "momentum" comes from where exactly? Surely not Stevo.

| Sound like some clubs want to cut others adrift and keep the sky money for themselves.
So that's Warrington and Hull Kingston Australians in favour. Who else??

| As I mentioned in the Season Ticket thread this is nothing but the top clubs looking after their own interests while at the same time Yorkshire teams giving a little olive branch to their fellow area Championship clubs, if they fall for it then Fool Them!
If we do not qualify for the Top Ten Super League then I think it will be the slippy end for us and though The Skolars work hard I can't see them ever climbing the ladder to get to Super League status for a long long time if ever! Let the North go alone if that is there wish, I am getting sick of the game, not interested at all in the England games what real relevance are they compared to union? which shirt is worth winning in League & union? the game will end up semi pro again, perhaps a few rich clubs will hang on pro. As long as the CEO of the RFL continues the game will continue to decline, he did nothing when at Halifax and he has been at the top at the RFL while so many bad decisions have been made.

| I would love to see two professional leagues within Rugby League with promotion and relegation. However, I can't see it being realistic or viable in this climate or any in the near future.
Calling it "two-tiered" is powdering it up, frankly. The Broncos, Salford, Wakefield and Widnes would be relegated to a 2nd Division with the bigger Championship sides taking the other six places. You'd expect Halifax, Leigh and Featherstone to have three spots straight away so we now have 7 in Division 2.
Who would be the other three? Could Sheffield and Batley sustain a professional status at present or in the next three or five years? I'd really like to see the at least one of the Cumbrian sides involved but at present, I can't see them being in a position to do so.
What would then happen to the current Championship One? That has 13 teams for 2013 plus Coventry in 2014 and the four sides relegated from the current Championship, I can't see there being an 18 teamed league. The most logical explanation would be to add two more and have two part time leagues of 10. So, we've now got four divisions within RL.
Not very likely but that would be my preference.

Oh don't be fooled. Mr Creosote did a lot for our club when in charge:
He sold our first team players which led to relegation
Gave us the worst nickname in the history of sport, which none of us wanted
Made the club difficult to invest in
Took us from 3rd in SL to bottom
Oversaw a massive drop in attendances
His actions nearly saw us disappear all together when relegated
Any wonder the bulls got a grade B licence, or crusaders got one at all? It's laughable he comments on how clubs are run and rubbished our SL application when the club is a far better place now then when he was in charge!
This clown runs the whole sport be afraid, be very afraid!
Good luck for the coming years guys, let's hope the RFL don't decide you're not wanted!

| Wonder if the Top Four clubs in Super League would agree to a draw to see which four clubs go down to Super League 2? - I very much doubt it!

Jaybs, while this post will add precisely nothing to the usefulness of the thread, I thought that you may like to know that for the first (and maybe the last) time ever, I agree completely with everything you wrote. Could even start a new thread about the relevance of England v Great Britain as our representative side. Pint on me if ever we meet.
