Very sad news. Certainly the greatest attacking coach we ever had, (his side still hold all the club records season points, tries and goal records). He was also the first coach to get us to a final (OT 1994).
Great motivator and a great character. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The club will surely have a minutes silence at the Wakey game.
Can I also suggest a chant of "Tanky Gordon's Barmy Army"

Very sad news. He was an excellent international coach for the Kiwis as well. His Crusaders team undoubtedly played the best rugby I have ever seen at our club.
I guess it puts the game today in some perspective.

My fondest memory was a game at Hunslet, the supporters bus had broken down and they let us travel on the team bus for the trip back. Tony ripped into the players for their failings after we had scored 46 points away from home! When greeted with a 'good morning' he regularly replied "what's f*cking good about it"!
A legend, and yes, the 1993-4 season was the best I ever ever seen too! |

Terrible news. I knew Tony at Crusaders, albeit not very well. Hard coach. Real old school. In training, made everyone run till they vomited. Or that's what it felt like, anyway. One of rugby league's more colourful characters. Too young to be gone.
