Pushing water uphill: |

| Thought we were creeping back in until Howell got himself sent off. He's always had a nasty streak, but he could have picked a better moment. We had the scrum anyway.
Damage limitation now, not helped by some shady VR decisions.

| Just leaving Wigan now. Thought we applied ourselves well in the second half against the odds. No lack of effort, for sure. Shame we didn't play like that from the off.
Shame about Howell and the defence at times.

| Thought you guys did well to come back into the game after the first half, think it was a combination of us playing very well from the off and you guys being a bit shocked at the tempo of our game.
We also seemed to close down randal quite quickly and i think that didnt allow you to get any momentum within your sets.
David Howell was pretty disgusting imo, but Sam Tomkins is going to have to deal with things like that for a while, already the fourth or fifth time someone has had a swipe or similar this season.
Glad to see you guys having a decent season overall though, hopefully your streak won't continue for much longer and you can stay up near the top where you deserve so far.

| Have to say in Howell's defence (if he can have one) his first contact was with the ball. For me no worse than Morley or Hock have been doing all season.

| Didn't get ourselves into the game until about the time Howell had his mad moment. From then on in we had no chance. Sure we showed up strong near the end but Wigan had started to ease off anyway. We don't seem to have those players who can make those killing beaks and by going down to 12 men our lack of energy cells from players having to do too much made getting into the final quarter and threaten them almost impossible. Gale showed what he can do running at the line. Lets hope they work on getting him into those positions more often. After failing to hang on to the win last week this loss as well means the teams just outside the eight have another chance to gain 2 more points on us. Very disappointing. Am I the only one who would prefer O'Callaghan to Gardner. Jamie has the commitment we want to see and the lad has a bit of pace and an eye for the line.

| biggest difference today between the teams today
basically enthusiasm!!
wigan line defence up in our faces very quickly, no room for us to work away from the ruck, whereas we simply waited for the attack to come to us!
Speed at the play the ball a big difference as well, pies players placing the ball as they gained there feet, where we were standing upright then bending to place the ball, took twice as long
VR decisions
Will Sharp very very close to the line, but probably correct decision!! just wish the same VR decision had been made at the stoop with the leeds try that was given despite a foot obviously in touch! ho hum
Second one, think close enough for it to be called knock on
Just annoying that they gave the one at the other end where the hand had come off the ball
BUT
well deserved win for pies
AS FOR HOWELL!!! hmmm moment of total madness, and deserved his red
as for the comment for LesT not seen either of those 2 players you mention do that sort of thing, straight elbow trying to break the blokes jaw!! Not the thing i want to see in the game
I reckon he will get 4 if not 5 game ban, and will not complain at that

And the other brother is gonna have to learn not to jump on people with his knees, not excusing what Howell did but the other Tomkins should have joined him.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| As a neutral who also wants Quins to do well this season, I confess I was shocked by Howell's hit on Tomkins. I think I've got so used to Quins being a clean team - they used to be our closest rivals where clean play was concerned (not any longer since we have slid downhill in that department!) - that it was quite a shock to see the elbow. He could get a few games for that, which is not what you need.
One thing though that Quins have which I don't think any other team has in such quantity is resilience. You could have done with playing a ton better than you did in the first half but had you not had one player missing, with all the pressure that brings, your second half performance could have pulled you back into the game. But even so, your blokes just didn't give up even when they had two disallowed tries (one which should not have been). I thought Quins were amazing in the way they kept playing. And so fit to keep doing so with one man down.
I hope you get out of your dip soon and get back to winning ways.
PS: I think the Tomkins' brother's knee job might be picked up by the RFL. I hope so. He had no business doing that, whatever Howell did.

| Let me clarify what I posted.
Howell did lead with his forearm with the intention of knocking the ball out, but rode up over the ball into Tomkins jaw. (have a look in slow motion frame by frame)
I still agree it deserved a red card, I don’t think he intended to make contact with the head.

not in a million years was he going for the ball mate, absolutely no intent but to nail tomkins.
Am i correct in thinking that the referee had already blown for a penalty? I'm sure i heard the whilstle but then things kicked off so quickly.

| sorry les I am quins through and through
why would he try to elbow the bloke in the chest
Ok a moment of madness for the cocky little bugger
BUT
no excuse, as for the follow up by the wigan players there was an elbow in there as well to howell on the ground which i think could be followed up
still reckon 4-5 games, its gonna hurt us
