| Is there more holding/slowing down creeping into our game? I thought Hull did it on Sat, although not as much as Wigan and Hudds.
Teams seem to be getting 2 in the tackle and then a third is joining and laying on, slowing the PTB down.
Just a thought I wondered if others have noticed this or its just me!!

No I noticed exactly the same thing against Hull. I was getting really annoyed because we didnt follow suit. We never seem to understand how to play the referree. They were able to play a quicker PTB than us as a result. When the third player just lays on and the ref still doesnt penalise the whole thing is a joke. Remember when we knocked on!? with the Hull players leg dislodging the ball as he 'rolled over' our player instead of rolling away.Even Stevo called it. Happened many times if you watch the replay. No wonder Hull can grind out the wins.

| i disagree i don't think there was that much laying on in the hull game the pitch was heavy and the knock on was a very poor decision but 2 points who cares right?

Wigan got away with a lot, generally we seem to get up quickly so we can work hard from marker.

| ....so what happened to that good old 'offence' called the 'FLOP'!!
The answer to all this might be the use of a second 'on field' referee.....it's certainly working in the NRL where it's resulted in a much faster game and seemingly liked by most supporters though perhaps not by players and coach's!!
At the very least it will enable certain 'fans' to double their 'hobby' of shouting abuse at the ref.

| we had a reputation 2 seasons back for laying on and slowing the game down, we got hammered for it
Watching last nights game right now, the Hull players were not rolling away straight away, they only moved when the ref called "Move"

| Im not sure it is a flop. They get the third player in towards the end of the tackle.
TR tried to introduce the 3 man tackle when we moved back to the Stoop(nothing to do with the ground more the year that I have forgotten)
Just to throw a further spanner in- Is there more [iwork[/i being done on the ground around the neck?

| Sorry but I thought it had been generally accepted that more time was being given at the play the ball this season. Slow things down a bit to match the Aussies. Just in time for them to apparently speed things up again by using two referees.

it's being done differently now. Second or third tackler arrives as the tacled player goes down, then puts his hands on the 1st tackler, then kneels on the ground as against droping on the tackled player.......cutre, but still ban g out of order, If a 6 year fan can see it, surely out professional refs can....oh, hang on,,,,,

Wigan were particularly culpable four weeks ago and I feel it ultimately won them the match. Warrington did it too, but were so poor on the day it didn't make much difference. I didn't notice Cas or Hull using this tactic; if Huddrsfield did it didn't matter as they were far better than us on the day in any case.

| thought Hull were ok, but Wigan were at it the whole game. They should've been wearing swimming trunks, it's was like WWE. Hudds should be experts at the wrestle with Mr Crabtree's heritage.

I thought you were the king of league knowledge at the stoop? While the rest of us need a league education.
A third man in after initial contact isnt a flop.
A flop is a player jumping on a player once the player is deemed to be held.

Indeed, given that any coach of any "lower" team will employ whatever tactics he can to slow down the better, faster team, we should take it as a compliment

| I've not really noticed it to be honest. We've certainly become more disciplined in this regard than we were under TR but I've not really noticed either Wigan, Warrington or Hull being overly persistent.

| I certainly noticed it against Wigan and even Wire (but i suppose they were just desperate), and it was also present against Hull, but the conditions could offer some excuse in this case. In actual fact it's not just holding down it's 'turtling' where the player is turned on their back once tackled.
I've been trying to see if we're doing it too and would have to say we're not. In fact we're jumping off probably a little too soon - presumably scared of the refs and how we got done last season. Reminds me of England in the World Cup, playing to a different set of rules.
In any case it won't come to anyone's attention but ours until either Saints, Wigan, Leeds or Wire complain about it so in the meantime let's just try gently reminding the referee of the rules whenever it occurs in our games.
