Certainly bigger than ours ......
I'd love to see the Leigh (and other clubs) business model that enables them to continue to recruit decent players and seemingly prevents us from doing similar.

Its not the Leigh business model that is preventing us signing decent players is it? We are choosing not to at this time. Whether that is right or wrong, we will find out in due course.

Don't agree DC1. Beaumont for all his failings is a reasonably successful business man, and he is hardly likely to be signing players without having some understanding of funding, other income steams, etc and an appreciation of his cash flow commitments with said player contracts in place. I don't for one minute think he is the sort of bloke that is willing to take huge chances on the money he is committing to Leigh RL.

| Clubs are gambling. We still don’t know what next seasons central funding will be. We haven’t a clue what the 2022+ TV deal will look like, worst case Is no cash from SL.
All clubs should be planning to be cash flow positive under all scenarios next year.

Clubs presumably could agree to restart behind closed doors.

| Unless there is financial support can't see many Championship sides wanting to start behind closed doors. Maybe Leigh & York might though.

DC,
Why not? With no furlough available clubs will have to pay players wages, so why not play games behind closed doors and stream games? Some revenue is better than none.

Indeed, in non league football it seems it is being left down to each club to sort out streaming platforms, whether to charge etc. Perhaps there is an opportunity for the RFL to help out clubs below SL by providing a common approach to streaming which could enable some much needed matchday revenue to flow in.

There is the small complication of Sky holding the broadcasting rights. Club cannot just start streaming games, at least not 'live' - I think Fev have to wait until Monday before making Sunday's game available on RoversTV.

We have seen in football that existing broadcasting rights can be worked around in current situation. If Sky do not want to show all the Championship games then why should clubs not have the opportunity ? This would of course be easier if the RFL took the lead to sort things out on behalf of all clubs.

I’m sure this is not true, even though sky have the rights to premier league football Clubs not on TV have still been streaming games live , I have watched a couple of Leeds Utd games this way. And there is significantly more money involved in football. I suspect that prior to the pandemic that Fev would not want to stream live games due to the fact that this could have affected game attendance.
I realise that the TV element is not as straightforward to sort as I (we) might like, but given they have worked round it in football makes me think that it is something that could also be sorted for RL. however the bigger thing is that the clubs from November will have to pay their players and therefore will want those players playing games sooner than later, therefore I suspect we will end up having games behind closed doors.

Sky hold the exclusive broadcast rights to Championship RL although they choose to only show the Bash and play offs. Our League streams games with their permission.
EPL games were being streamed on a temporary permission basis and it isn't going to continue with games not being shown on the main channels to be offered through PPV on Sky (at £14.95 a go) - you reckon they'll do that for Championship (or even SL) RL?

Agreed Mr D, cant see Sky sending crews to cover other than the odd Championship game.
In any event just how many would want to PPV Championship games particularly if they already pay for Sky. In addition if games go on behind closed doors, the clubs will still have match day expenses. It may well still be better financially to just pay players & not play the games. That would suit SL as they could then say as no meaningful Championship, no Promotion or Relegation again.
It is hard given the current rate of infection to say when the season might start, February, March, May, June? How deep into 2021 do you go before calling it a day for the season?

If clubs were able to stream themselves they would use a much simpler setup than Sky probably even with a single camera (such as used for YouTube highlights).

Think our average attendance 2019 was a tad over 2000. Given a significant % were away fans & we have quite a few family units, how many PPVs would we be able to sell? Let's be generous & say 500. What would you have to charge to cover costs & more importantly make a profit for playing the match? Given i assume only the club know the cost of putting a game on behind closed doors, do you charge £10, £20, £50 per game? I just can't see behind closed door games being viable for most of the Championship.

I think 500 is ambitious but non league football clubs are doing this for smaller numbers. I doubt there is money to be made but for these clubs it is a way to continue to engage with fans.

| Sky’s red dot coverage of championship football games is poor. Single camera’s, no replays. This is despite good quality footage being available as it gets shown on SSN. I assume the editing is done in Isleworth rather than at the ground to cut costs.
Streaming has to be of sufficient quality, early Our League was shocking I wouldn’t pay to watch it.
