This is a London Broncos forum and we were discussing potential friendlies for the club.
Feel free to stick to your threads on trivial matches that benefit noone other than those participating.

| I don't think playing Oxford or Hemel will be worthwhile. Yes, it would be nice to develop a relationship with Oxford seeing as they're a brand new club (I believe the club has links with Hemel seeing as Sarginson and Dixon are from Hemel) but I don't think it would be a worthy opponent. Look at the annual games with Skolars, they're tight for 20 minutes at most and the last 20 is always a case of BroncQuins scoring a load of points.
I like the idea of Fev or Sheffield though. Fev isn't the nicest looking place to go and seeing how well they have competed in a league that is totally pointless, it would be a worthy test and would give Rea a good idea of where his side is. Didn't Leigh turn over the Quins the other year?
Also, Melbourne are back in town next year for the World Challenge, get them back to The Stoop. The weather was lousy that day a few years ago but its not often I get to see my NRL side on my doorstep.

| I heard our 2013 pre-season friendlies are away to Catalans and the match against Skolars again.
I suspect the problem we have had arranging friendlies in the past is one of money. Northern teams don't want to travel down to London and on a split gate we are not enough of a draw to make it worth their while at home.
Fwiw I think matches against Hemel and Oxford would be worthwhile but with a predominantly U21 team put out. There are plenty of friendlies between Super League and Championship sides but the Super League sides rarely put out a first team in such games.

| Why play any friendlies? Lets just go straight into the SL and remain fit and hit form for the last third of the season like Leeds.
Thats the winning formula. McDermott said when at the Quins they had over trained pre season and hit form at the wrong time. Wire have pulled back during the season to get ready for the end of season.
A week in France will bring the team together. Training in warm weather etc. But full on matches- forget it.

McDermott had them playing silly war games training dressed a soldiers!
Agree with you about France, but I do think you need to have some warm up games to bring new players together as a team. If we start 2013 season losing games that will lose any impetus to bring in new fans to the stoop.

| I think it’s about finding the balance. Wigan have gone all out since pre season and it seems to have caught them up. (Wire did the same last year and fell at the last hurdle)
Mac and Smith have managed their resources to hit form at the right time (in different ways) but both successfully
Do we need pre season games. Who knows

Not quite, we just about won it in a tight finish, but no doubt Fev away would provide a similarly tough test.

| Leeds at least had their Xmas game(s). I was only suggesting playing a reserve/youth side as a welcome gesture to the new clubs, it could be beneficial to both sides.
