I've always been a bit against a name change. I also think London Rugby League is boring and bland and I do think you need a nickname to build more of a brand around.
Not sure that is true. Castleford are still more Cas than Tigers, Wakefield more than Wildcats, Catalans more than Dragons & I would suggest Wigan more than Warriors. It's all about how you sell it.
If as suggested elsewhere that the resurfacing of Fatty Wood might of ended NRL interest staying as Broncos might be a moot point.
In tribute to Cliff, didn't he & others shout London London not Broncos Broncos?
I'm not sure you can compare a number of clubs that are 150 years old approximately with a London side that has had more permanent home venues than many clubs have had major trophies. London need to build a brand to grow. To people on here, it's a bit meaningless because the chances are those using this forum will be there regardless but look at Leigh and the Leopards brand and how they've grown. That is one part of what London needs and London RLFC is, to me, dull and bland. Branding is pretty awful in rugby league (amongst many things) but there's a real chance to develop a brand and having a driving force to develop that rather than just London.
With a proper brand, you've got the ability to have different merchandise ranges, PR avenues to exploit, design options and something to build around. The Hounds and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home (located under 5 miles from Plough Lane) is an easy tie in. The players walking on to a televised Super League game holding a dog from Battersea on a lead, the club's official charity, even tying into retired Greyhounds charities because of the dog track links. You don't get those 'tap ins' with London RL.
