Quote: Jo Jumbuck "It was obvious from looking at the bench last night what sort of game Woolford intended to play, Salford looked determined to match us and by and large they did but that is a huge improvement on playing 90% of the game in our 22 , which has been a feature of the last few seasons. We didn't really capitalize on it so much because the halves kicking was very poor but it won't always be.
We didn't get bullied and that's a huge step forward I think as they settle in we will have a pack to hold their own .'"
As one who was there last night our forward ‘grunt’ is far better than last season.
Opposition forwards don’t like Kenny Edwards and Woolford held Gavet back and he made a lot of metres when he came on, just look at his effort that put Loloheaea off his drop goal attempt how long is it since a Giants player let alone a prop forward did something like that.
Gavet also won the winning penalty with a great run and second effort and had the ‘nous’ to play the ball quickly whilst Mossop was still behind him in the ruck area, despite the Salford ‘boos’ even Child couldn’t miss it clear penalty!!
Neither teams kicking game was great but there was a swirling breeze in the stadium and a pre-game rumour from a source close to the club that Sezer had a hamstring twinge and was 50/50 to play.
This appeared to be confirmed by him not kicking to touch or taking drop outs. He was very half pace in the warm up too.
The fitness regime seems much better this year as all our forwards even Bruno made some metres with a couple of decent breaks too and Saui Matagi is a completely different player this year fit and runs in a lot quicker.
Overall a good performance and good to see Kevin Brown given a card for his head-but on Jordan Turner.
Sarginsons explanation of ‘Kev’ is not that type of player he just got his head in the wrong place!!’
was Monty Pythonesque I hope he gets at least two games.....
