Twice as many penalties as Widnes but very few breaks and yardage especially in the three quarters which was understandable given the positions the players were asked to play in. First time Widnes haven't conceded 30 or more points in a Super League game this season

| Carry yardages for Gilmour Lawrence & Ferguson are a concern. In fairness Lawrence played a lot at centre and he and Fergie have great tackle stats. Contrast those carry yards with Doof, Larne & Mase, it seems clear to me a rotation of those three and Eorl at prop is pretty good. three of Fergie, Chan, Lawrence and Fairbank in second row (Lawrence makes it for me due to covering backs and Chan for strike power. Play a forward at loose O'Donnel or Faiumu, with Robbo at hooker and an interchange of Faiumu, Lee or Moore. That seems a good pack to me, one that can challenge and is not undersized.
In the backs our best line up is Eden, Jerry, Leroy, Wardle, George with Murphy as cover, the debate for me is at half back, Brough is a given on top form it would be Brown with him, but Brown has been struggling to pass backwards all season, he loves a cut out pass but has been a bit wild. Grix has a better kicking game and is a better support runner. Brown for me but Grix pushing him close. Moore or Lee offer more options for in game switching to an extra pivot than Fooey, Moore has the best kicking game of our four hookers.

| The Giants only conceeded 9 penalties. Widnes conceeded 16.
The stats for Jerry are wrong. No way if he made 21 carries did he make less than 4 metres per carry. Either the yardage is worng or the number of carries are wrong.

| One of the more disappointing parts of the game for me (amongst many) was Larne Patrick's penalty when he crunched Phelps, the press made out like he was lucky to stay on the pitch in the reports yet it hasn't been looked at by the RFL and it wasn't put on report at the time - what did he actually do wrong? At the time it looked to me to be a good clean hit?
This would have given us some good position to really build from, but instead we get penalised and we have to start again from well within our own half.

| Was a late hit....not really dangerous i thought but late enough to warrant a penalty.

| It wasn't a late hit, but was a very unusual incident, Phelps was shaping up to kick and Larne closing him down, Phelps realised Larne was going to get him and knocked on, the only reason he did not have the ball was because he pooped his pants. The hopelessly out of his depth ref panicked, not for the first time and treated it like a late hit. Phelps did not kick the ball, had he caught then kicked the ball he would have been tackled well before the kick.
A poor poor decision as verified by no case to answer.
