| An honest question that I don't know if anyone will be able to provide an answer to, but what's the percentage of tries we have conceded down our right-hand side?
It has been concerning me for the last few weeks (since Wakefield away) that the majority of tries we concede all come down the one channel.
I can't really pin-point why it is. At first, I thought Jerry was getting caught in no-mans land alot, but he switched wings at Wakefield and Leroy had the same problem. I've been particularly paying close attention to it since then and notice that Jerry HAS to come in quite often to make the tackle, often leaving an overlap. Quite often it comes off but other times it doesn't. Is it Leroy that isn't sliding across, our back-rower (mostly Chan) or Broughy who is the weaklink?
At Catalan last week, I said before the game that it would be close and I would be happy if we were losing at halftime, as our performances in the second half of games have been great. However, the Dragons seemed to identify our weaknesses early on and their first three tries came down our right wing - that worried me. Same again yesterday.
When teams are running at us in that area or putting a kick up, I am fearful, but over on the other side of the pitch, we are solid.
Anyone else noticed this - I'm sure the likes of Wigan and Warrington have!

| Not something I've noticed, but I'll be keeping an eye out now. Though when a winger is isolated in defence, the problem normally lies in-field.

| Our right hand side was awful last year in defence - people were blaming Will Sharp when it was actually an ineffectual slide from the second rower, the half back and the centre leaving the winger with a choice to make.
I dont know what Peter Gentle has done, but the defence is much more structured this year

| I think you'll probably find that most teams are stronger playing/passing from right to left so the right side of defence has more try attempts to contend with. Don't think it's individuals that are at fault as such.
More people are right handed and it more natural to pass to your left, and hence more fluid as a general rule.

| If you also pay attention we blitz our left hand attack - aka the defences right side
It's not so much our defence as the oppositions attack that hits that side, same as we do. What's the answer? Good question lol

| Ive noticed this too, the original post follows my thoughts exactly and it worries me when we get to the tight important games! Hard to pin point but i agree jerry seems very exposed at times. dont know if its his doing or his inside men!?

Nail on head, most sides left hand side is stronger so right hand defences will get tested more.

| I love broughy and I am 50 per cent his love child - but occasionally he jumps out of the line and does not wrap up ball and man. Great when it works but sometimes wonder if the gamble is really worth it because when you miss it's opposition try time.

| I think it is that of our pivots both Kev Brown and Grixy defend on our left and only Broughy on the right. There should be help from the middle, but if the ball is shifted quickly we can be caught short handed. I think we would be in more trouble sticking Kev in the middle like an "extra prop" loose forward.
Its all relative though, just look at our overall defensive record

| The problem with our right hand side defence is fairly simple. Broughy misreads plays and gets sucked in by dummy runners, slides too late because of this and therefore an overlap is created. Cudjoe does a good job of trying to position him on our line but, as was the case at Wakefield, when Cudjoe isn't there and the game is not of great importance, Broughy's defensive decision making goes awry. Further out the whole right hand side is very static and moves up a lot less than the left hand side. We often concede easy metres like this and occasionally tries as well (as in the Warrington game). The plan seems to be to hold the line and then shoot up together at the right moment - I have no problem with this, however as the left hand side shows, you can still do this as well as moving forward from the moment the ball leaves the ruck area.
Plus, most players pass best off their right hands, therefore the best attack tends to come from going to the left - which hits our right hand side defence.

| Our rhs will be tested with lots of high balls towards gelling on Friday night me thinks. Could be a mismatch there and Hope jerry has been practising jumping this week , though tbh sometimes Leroy is great at the jump ball .... Jump Leroy jump.

| just look at who has conceded the least points so far this season......
brough is brilliant in defence for me....i think grix is poor though in this area
cudjoe is brillant in the air...need to use more bombs aimed at him!

| Brough's one on one tackling is great and he hits hard for his size, but defence isn't just about being able to tackle. I would never suggest he's a bad defender, simply that when we concede down the right quite often Broughy has misread the play. I would suggest that this is more a concentration thing than anything else, (which is why Cudjoe is important), because against the better teams he seems to make better decisions more often.
People need to remember though that defensively we are up there with the best and if nobody made mistakes on defence RL would be a very boring game.
