I've just received a email off South Sydney saying they've released Simpson so he can take up a contract with Huddersfield.

MEMBERS FIRST: Rabbitohs Release Jamie Simpson to Huddersfield Giants

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have released Jamie Simpson from the remaining ten months of his NRL contract to take up a contract with English Super League Club Huddersfield Giants.
Simpson has played 37 NRL games since making his debut against the Warriors in 2008, and has been a valuable member of the Rabbitohs squad both on and off the field.
Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson wishes Jamie well on his European adventure.
“Jamie has an opportunity to head to the UK with Huddersfield and play in the elite Rugby League competition in Europe,” Mr Richardson said.
“Jamie made his first grade debut with the Rabbitohs and has been one of the leaders of Souths Cares’ programs off the field.
“This is a great opportunity for Jamie to take up a contract in the English Super League and also explore a bit of the world whilst playing Rugby League.
“We wish him the best of luck in his move to England.”
Simpson is excited about his new contract at Huddersfield.
“I’m really looking forward to heading to the Huddersfield Giants and starting the next phase of my football career,” Simpson said.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to play Rugby League in other countries and experience the rest of world.
“I’m grateful to the Rabbitohs for the opportunities they’ve given me over the past three seasons both on and off the field.
“I’d also like to thank the Members and supporters of the Rabbitohs for all of their support over the past three years. It’s been my pleasure to represent you each week in the red and green.
“I wish my team mates, the coaching staff and the Club the best of luck for this year and for the seasons to come.”

As a souths fan it will be sad to see Simpson leave.
I think he will really do well in the English League and wish him all the best.
He knows how to score tries.
Makes good metres when he runs.
Just needs to work on his defense a bit more.

From what i have seen looks like a younger version of Fatz. Not blessed with the greatest of speed but good footwork and knows how to set up a winger and exploit space. Could be a good signing for us. Gives us a bit of experience in the backs and gives us some different options as well as allowing Gilly to go pack in the pack.

Thats a good signing for you lot. He's very versatile as well. He can play centre, wing, hooker, and can cover at stand off and possibly fullback.

With Simpson at centre Gilly can go back into the back row.
Leroy and simpson will be a very good centre pairing. A back row of Fa'alogo, O'Donnell and Gilmour is excellent (with Kirmond / Faiumu /Horne + some very good kids as back up!)

At least he's not your typical Aussie coming over for his retirement fund!
Part of me is glad that we now have more strength in depth, but I can't help feeling sorry for either Bruno [if he takes his place] or Fooey [if Gilly does move into the forwards]. Still, if we replicate last year's injuries they'll all get games.

scored 14 tries in 31 nrl games, not a bad record in a tougher league.
like people have already stated it can allow gilmour maybe to go back into second row if needed and extra cover in the backs...can play wing too dont forget! gilmour and d hodgson to leave at end of season maybe..
also he has survived non hodgkins lymphoma which i know from my mother having this that he must of been through hell, got my respect and will be one tough lad, amazing story  |
