The problems were regarding Officials for all 3 games but now there are no problems at all. All 3 events will go on as I quote above. No worries.

I've been told that no huddersfield officials will officiate in this seasons cup finals (as decided by the referees management)

What's lockwood park like for bringing a toddler? May take the entire family down

I hear they have a good 'turn' on the PA system.

It should be ok Wadski.

It has a concrete path all the way round the outside so is suitable for buggy's, has a stand so you can sit down and on the other side of the field is a grass banking so if the weather is suitable you could sit on the grass and have a picnic!

Maybe some local referees are not into making Political Statements and would prefer to be refereeing rather than throwing their dummy out of the pram.

For those who are interested the Local referees Society were asked who was qualified and available to officiate at all of the local finals including Junior Finals and instead of telling the League who was available they told it who should be officiating. The League therefore appointed Huddersfield referees who were top of the rankings with the Pennine League so the local Refs Society said that they would tell thetr members not to officiate in the local Cup Finals.

In cases like this the only losers are good quality referees who deserve the honour to be officiating at a Local Cup Final and cannot.

Political statements has nothing to do with it Stu and I think it’s very short-sighted to suggest that.

I think the problem is that some officials don’t get chance to referee Pennine League fixtures as they have RFL fixtures of a higher standard (National Conference for example) and therefore don’t get marked by Pennine League clubs. To give you an example one of the Hudds referees has refereed National Conference rugby and Pennine League premier and division 1 fixtures all season. This year’s cup final referee has refereed less than for only 50% of the season and his last match was Pennine division 5.

The other problem is the scoring system put in place by the Pennine League. Several referees’ societies are unhappy about the current systems and I’m led to believe a change is being looked into. Clubs fill in a referees assessment form after every game. Some clubs don’t even bother. The majority of clubs don’t take it seriously and rush the job of filling the form in (thus not making it accurate) to avoid fines put in place by the Pennine League.

The Hudds referees society sent a list to the league advising of referees that were available for the finals. For some reason the league appointed an official that was not on this list and when confronted one of the reasons for this appointment was and I quote "the sponsors like him". Hardly fair to the other officials if you ask me.

Now I’m not really bothered who referees the final as any of the Hudds officials are capable and suitable for the role but it’s the manner of which the final has been appointed that has irritated a lot of people within the society.

Hmmmm I fully understand PB statement about this not being a political protest but i also feel that Big Stu has a valid argument too,

so which is better Stu and his Maggie Thatcher’s stance on the situation or PB's dogged fight & determination for equality resembling the minors strike of 1984?

THERES ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT ........................

(all together now) .......................FIGHT!
