| I disagree, I think plenty of Superleague clubs would take Grix at fullback
As I said, We could sign Billy Slater and he'd be getting grief from some of our fans.

| Keep on seeing stuff about sign Gaskell and play him fullback, why would we as far as I know he's a standoff just playing fullback at Salford cause he cant get in the halfback roles. I'm happy with Grix yeah he might cost us a game but there's plenty off games he saved for us if not give Murphy a chance there with the signing off Bailey as a ball playing loose maybe we'll have less emphasis on a creative full back and he's safe as houses. There's also Connor I think hes called out of the 19's looks a good prospect can play there.

| IMO we don't need to change our fullback, grix has been good for this season, yes hes made a couple of errors but doesn't everyone.

| There was much chat about this topic at last night's HGSA meeting. The general, no, the unanimous opinion was that at worst Grix is good. People were pointing out his various good points, but also admitted that sometimes he made mistakes.
There were two things which really annoyed most people who sit near every member of the society.
The unanimous consensus was that we have the best team in 60 years. We should be backing the team to the hilt, not trying to cause a player to lose his confidence.
It just seems, as in all walks of life [just ask Ken and the Town 'supporters'], the antis have a louder, nastier voice than the majority.

| So, for every HGSA member there are 2-3 people with a differing opinion than them and that makes them a nasty minority??
Regardless of what people's opinions of Grix are, that is a pretty needless statement and will not encourage people to join HGSA

| I didn't say 'nasty people' I said 'nastier voice'. If you constantly shout abuse at someone, most people would call that 'nasty'.
People are most certainly entitled to their opinions. What is particularly galling is the uncalled for abuse directed towards a key member of the team we all support.

| Well said Ivor.
Every single bloke, and I make no exceptions, that wears the C&G has done an absolutely fabulous job for us .
What the small minded individuals, that prefer to snipe at players rather than appreciate what they have done this season, should really look at it from the players perspective and see how they would like it.
For God's sake! We are in a better position, playing better footie than I can ever remember.
I am loving every minute and if Scottie decides to stay with us until the end of his career that'll be fine by me.

| It's not just Grix though. We had the same problem with Thorman. Eorl spent the first 6 or so years of his career being called "big girl" and "shirley" by his own fans. Every time the other team score half of our "fans" shout "wake up fartown" or "wakey wakey" and treat the score as a personal affront.

| To be fair, the tries Catalans scoured on Friday were down to our defence being asleep for them...

| Yes - two caused by broughs individual errors - but noone would dare call him out for it!!!
it seems to me that a lot of those having a go at grix fail to have a full grasp of the nuances of the game, and especially of the modern fullback role since the fullback position has been the most scapegoated position since paul reilly - who was an excellent servant for the club, but was certainly not a "modern" fullback.
giantdee - there clearly arent 2-3 people for every HGSA member slating Grix - since all supporters sit in similar places in the stadium its the same handful that can be heard by those HGSA memebers. Theres a nuance right there!
people are entitled to their opinions and thats right and proper, and we can discuss those differences in opinion all day long - but if people think that shouting abuse and negative comments at members of our team is the right way to either, show SUPPORT or encourage the team or individual players to better things they are mistaken.
One final thought - who did the coach think was the right person for the full back role this season? - and who did the PLAYERS back to be the best fullback for the job within the team when there was the NB falling out at the end of last year??
think I have more faith in what the coaches and players think of whether grix is doing a good job than a bunch of people who pay money to watch entertainment but most of whom have probably never played the role of fullback or coached a team before!!!

Eh? I didn't say owt!
But for what is worth I think Scot Grix is a very decent player, if he does more positive than negative then he is good, I believe he has done that over the season, though he has had some poorer matches. His error rate tends to be higher if we are chasing a game, which you would expect as he is taking more risks to try and turn things around, I for one will always forgive any player for "positive errors" that is errors made trying to win the match rather than accepting defeat. Of course those sort of errors are more likely in games we lose, which is where the perceptions/prejudices come from.
One thing he does need to work on is ball protection, he gets targetted for one on one steals, more so as he has lost a few.
I do think Scot is now less consistent than he was and I blame Nathan Brown for that. If Baloo can continue to rebuild Scot Grix confidence we have our fullback. If he cannot we will need a change, I am backing Paul Anderson's judgement on this, he seems happy.

| I think Grix's problems - and indeed Thorman and Eden's before were due to where their errors were made on the field - as full-backs their errors tend to be between our goal line and 20 metre line therefore giving the opposition the best field position possible and often leading to tries against us, making the same error 50 yards upfield will gift the opposition the ball but still far enough away to not be an immediate danger to our line. This is probably why Grix tends to get more stick than say Lawrence, Ferres etc who make mistakes away from danger, they still get groaned at though.
Grix tends to lose the ball one on one and has it stolen too which as a full-back, again spells immediate danger to us when this happens as usually there is no one else around to cover.
I think Grix is scapegoated more because the fans know his errors tend to lead to tries or, most certainly try scoring chances rather than just dropping it upfield where it shouldn't go unpunished as much.
He also tends to lose confidence in himself pretty quickly too i've noticed which doesn't help because the more the crowd get on his back, the more likely he is to make an error.
I'm quite happy to see him collect the ball, and make sure he gets the ball back into play safely, even if that means just ambling into the line and surrendering, but some people expect him to break tackles and go on a run every time and if he doesn't they get on his back for that too - to me a full backs job is to return the ball from the kick/dead ball safely to allow an attack to build.
