Even though he has another year on his contract and wants to stay, it did look that way.

If Faiumu is staying, and I hope he is, he needs to be given a position and allowed to play in in consistantly whether it be hooker or loose forward - not moving between hooker, loose forward and prop.

Quote: chunkyhugo "Sick of the garbage some Wire fans (yes, you Sally Cinnamon) are coming out with regarding the status of SL Champions. This is in no way knocking Huddersfield in winning the League Leaders Shield this season. You have been the most consistent team in the SL comp this season, end of story.

Does anyone really believe those Wire fans will still be proclaiming The Giants as the "true Champions" if Wire win the GF next week? Maybe Sally Cinnamon would like Tony Smith to chuck the SL trophy into the Mersey on Sunday morning (as it is only a minor piece of silverware...).'"

For some of us who watched rugby league before the Superleague started, the true champions are the ones who perform the best throughout the season and end up top of the league at the end of it.

I am one of those supporters and, win or lose next week, I will still regard Huddersfield as the true champions this year.

Of course we wouldn't throw the SL trophy into the Mersey, should we win it next week. Winning any trophy is a good for fans and club, of course it is, but it still doesn't match being the winners of the league, minus the knock out rounds, in my mind. This is my opinion icon_smile.gif

Fantastic. Why watch super league if you don't care about how it actually, you know, works?

If the league mattered, the other big teams would have made more of a go of it and Huddersfield wouldn't have been near the top 3.

Edit: What? You're a Warrington fan? Still bitter about 2011 then I take it....

Then you are deluded.

If winning the LLS made a club the "true champions" you'd see a totally different approach to the way the season was played from the top 4/5 teams in the Super League.

The regular season is simply a mechanism to decide which clubs enter into the Championship Play-offs.

If you don't or refuse to believe this then you haven't grasped how rugby league has decided it's champions for a vast majority of it's 118 year history.

i agree, also want faiumu to stay. Hope he is, takes up quite abit of the salary cap though and not getting any younger so can see the reasons if he is going.. lets hope he stays.

Always makes me laugh when people call themselves traditionalists and yet have no idea about the traditional RL method of selecting the champions. Normally in the same breath as claiming SL invented the idea of playoffs. icon_smile.gif

I watch because I like Rugby League and Superleague is the way it has developed.

I fully understand that about the way things work. However, I don't have to like it.

Not bitter at all about 2011. It's not my nature.

Edit

That really is complete nonsense, the only team who might have finished above Huddersfield if the regular season decided the champions is Warrington.

It is an untruth that Huddersfield went all out in team selections for every match, just like others they prioritised at times. in so doing Huddersfield Giants lost 3 matches where they put out weaker sides due to other circumstances, Salford and Bradford away and Wire at home. With a different emphasis it would be reasonable expectation that we could have picked up more points.

Wigan did not deliberately lose 7 out of 9 or whatever the poor run they went on and Brian McDermott, to his credit, has stated that he has put out the best team he could on every match this season.

The true champions of Super League are the Grand Final winners, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks, that is what the competition rules say. Equally the LLS is a prize worth winning, it does not have the staus of the GF or the Challenge Cup, so it ranks third in importance, but every club would like to win it. For us winning the LLS this year is a major step forward, one we can be justly proud of, just like possible errors by Mr Silverwood last night, games that Wigan, Leeds or others may have won in different circumstances are of no consequence, they lost those games and we won our first top flight trophy since 1962. No amount of whining bull**** can take that away from us.

Like all Fartowners I am of course disappointed we did not win last night, but I am very happy with how our team have progressed this season icon_biggrin.gif

I ain't doubting winning the SL is the 'big one' but when anyone (mainly neutral posters) come on here and say in their eyes/opinion the LLS is the true winners, it's nearly always Leeds fans who come on to our boards and rip into them (to use an Eorl saying).

It's like they have to defend winning the SL title, isn't enough for them, they have to ram it down their throats, that that's all that counts, maybe because they could finish top for a number of seasons but won the SL at the end of the season.

and for what its worth I want Leeds to win the thing this year, now we are out, as they are the remaining Yorkshire club left.

I guess we can say we are the best team in Yorkshire this term, which for a club like ours is a massive achievement in itself.
