That could be him- he was very young and was supposed to be the next big thing but was truly awful.
As for graham holroyd- well looks like he could well have been poor off the field let alone on it

| Whilst all the players mentioned may have been full timers in the SL era most of the names mentioned were first division players playing in SL. It is not their fault they played above their level because that is all we could afford.
Most of them would have been on £15k and a win bonus so to criticise them for being made to look rubbish by the likes of Farrell or Sculthorpe is a bit unfair. They tried their best playing above their level.
If you were to look at those who were the worst with their performances, divided by games played, pounds £ per game and reputation i doubt we got our moneys worth out of O'Donnell or Faalogo.

| Ryan Clayton anyone?
I watched the 2005 season review last week to keep me sane, we played some good stuff through march, thorman, drew and gene. Saw Clayton on there and couldn't really remember him doing a massive amount, also what happened to jonny grayshon?

Dave Hodgson (Great finisher but everytime ball went near him I cringed - sure some will argue)
Benny Custo (couldn't make touch from a penalty)
Matt Whittaker (had all the attributes but has to one of the most unnatural player's i'v ever seen)
Michael Korkidas (only for us tho)

Exactly, superb player and possibly the best finisher i've seen......that's what he was paid to do and he did it, very well.

| Its all down to opinions. But I would hardly call him a great player, great finisher I totally agree. but he was found wanting in defence on more than one occasion and he was pretty shocking under the high ball. We paid him to be a rugby player not just score tries. Otherwise he would of only trained two days a week on finishing. Like I say its down to opinions. I wouldn't swap any of our current crop for him in his hay day.

| But this is a thread about the worst five Giants players in the super league era. whatever anyone's opinion on David Hodgson it is totally insulting that he would be on anybody's list. come on we have had some awful players represent us in our early days that are not fit to lace Hodgsons boots

| I agree- Hodgson wasn't the best winger but he was a VERY long way from being anywhere near the worst!

| i realise its all about opinions but surely even those who didn't have him as one of their favourite players cannot seriously think he is one of the 5 worst players for us since 1998 ??
tryscorer - yes
flamboyant -no
Scapegoat -Yes
Poor player - Definitely not !!

| i didnt put david hodgson in my worst 5. But someone has and i can see why, no need to shoot them down, at least they have had a go at naming a 5. Some may not want to name a 5 but did the topic just to keep the forum ticking over as it was dying a slow death!

Was crap at Cas also.

| Interesting reading some of the names on here. Those Hudds teams of 1999 to 2000 that were wooden spoonists by miles actually had players that were decent players at other clubs: Goulding, Wright, Bentley, Arnold, Fozzard, Laughton, Clinch, Gleeson, Crowther, Ngamu. Its a shame it didn't work at Hudds but when you look at the other wooden spoon teams of the SL era, no way did they have quality like that.
Cardoza was a frustrating player. I remember in 2002, Warrington signed three players from Hudds, Fozzard, Cardoza and Weston (I think Weston had been at Widnes for a year or so before he came to us but anyway). I thought that these were three good signings at the time who were underrated but only Fozzard delivered. Weston didn't even play for us, he did a runner back to Widnes although he didn't make waves for them in SL either.
Cardoza though, I remember seeing him in pre season and thinking what an athlete this dude is. Lean and powerful and he was explosive off the mark. He looked like the kind of player that would be a handful to tackle and really had the physique to make it. I thought he was an undiscovered gem. But a couple of months in to the season his contract was terminated and he never played SL again.
There was a fans forum at Wilderspool with the then coach David Plange and someone asked why did we get rid of Cardoza. Plange basically said Cardoza had bags of natural ability and the physique for it but he just didn't want to be a professional enough, apparently they'd had an honest conversation about it and had pretty much agreed that it was better for him to have a career in the lower leagues, where he could enjoy the lifestyle he liked, and still get away with it on the field because of his natural ability. I suppose the life of a full-time pro and all its sacrifices isn't for everyone and thats fair enough.

| Actually following up my post above, what did you guys think of Craig Weston when he was at Hudds? The reason I had thought he was an undiscovered gem was that I used to follow the Aussie game pretty closely and in the mid 1990s Weston had been seen as one of the top junior talents in the game. There were a lot of people that seemed to rate him but whenever I saw him play I never saw anything out of the ordinary.

| Craig Weston was a cracking player for us, very underated i thought but he played in a team that was very much struggling in the early days of SL.
Was a class act in the lower division though. Was disappointed when he left us and was a shame he never made it in SL.
