| After thinking things over here are my thoughts.
We should have scored more points for all that first half pressure, but completely ‘goofed’ the second half.
The Hull left winger will never score three easier tries as Mackintosh is not a right winger and his positional play was shocking. Might have got away with it if Lawrence had stayed on he seemed to shore up the right hand side until he went off injured.
Our defensive line is shocking too many shooting out to make a magic play Turner for Jake Connors try was just stupid.
Missed tackles, stupid penalties no holding the defensive line, have we had a pre season?? same old same old after what was an encouraging start.
The kick into the wingers hands try down our right hand side in the second half the winger had so much time it was unbelievable as Mackintosh had gone AWOL again he could have stood still thought about it then scored you could see why Hull pinpointed it second half.
A long day for me to get to Hull for 35 minutes encouragement and 45 minutes of horror.
Teacher says ‘must do better’

Last season injuries and discipline were our issues.
After 1 game yes I can say half our squad is injured again:
Jerry
Leroy
Wakeman
Lawrence
Symonds - but no point really mentioning him. Obviously a bad one again.
Ikahihifo - they think was just exhaustion but could be something else.
Mellor
Wood
Ferguson - potentially injured too
After after 1 game has our discipline improved? No. Still our own worst enemy by knocking on at crucial points and giving away silly penalties which also lead to tries at certain times.
Brough also still as easy as ever to wind up and teams will target him all year.
For Smith, he should be very disappointed. He will be no where near our starting 17 without injuries and this was his chance to impress to show what he can do and make a claim. He will now be really down the pecking order.

| The worry for me is that in 80 minutes we did not make a single break. We have some good attacking players but the style of rugby played is dire.

| yes it was a poor night but still some positives, its the first game, one which i didnt think we would win anyway, had my money on hull fc -8 with the bookies
next weeks game against warrington is already a big one for us i feel!
ferguson in for lawrence
hopefully mcgillvary is back too.
ikahihifo isnt injured according to stone which is good news.
brough kicks out on the full and not one of the players has a go, brough knocks on from a poor pass from rankin.... he has a go.... been the problem with brough and teamates...seems ok for him to make a mistake but not others...dont like to see that

Yeah I totally agree with you there Brearley. Lose to Warrington at home and I think we are heading for another season similar to last one.
I was personally hoping Brough would leave in the off season. I hope this is his last season with us.

| Disappointing as at 12-4 we we're in total control of the game but once again our heads went down too quickly after an error and that was it - game over, we stopped tackling, organising, communicating.
Another thing Mamo was awful, Grix got killed on here for better performances than than !!!.
Anyway it's 1 game, nothing is decided, i won't be making rash predictions anbd making ludicrous calls after 1 game.
There's work to do but we knew that anyway.
Hopefully Seb is alright for Thursday.

| This is obviously why over 300 people did not renew their season tickets after 1 match ! Basic simple mistakes, schoolboy errors, no discipline, as soon as they go behind their heads drop. How did management expect any improvement from last season without new talent brought into the squad. Just cannot see any hope for the future. Too many championship players at best in our Super League Squad. Now its up to the players and management to prove me wrong.

| Some realism is required. It was clearly a disappointing result but we had a huge gulf to close on Hull based on last season. Let's at least wait until we've played twice & had a game at home before too many judgements are made.

The realism is simple and obvious and not just from last night but for a while and the needs are rather simple
1. Lack an inspiring captain like a Sinfield or leader in the Luke O’Donnell mode
2. A defensive line that holds it shape
3. A killer instinct when we are on top
4. Bottle to admit players aren’t good enough and move them on Smith for example
5. A coach that can do a half time motivational piece cos last nights was obviously a doozy
6. Symonds has to play if not fit he should retire due to injury to claim the insurance and come off the salary cap so we can replace him
7 Don’t extend DB’s contract unfortunately a replacement is very difficult as a marquee Aussie is the best current offering
8. Get our strongest team on the field at least twice this season
We won’t go down but the JS has to be a fortress if we are to improve on last year or do anything in the cup or the 8th or 9th the press predict is just about right

It does make me chuckle to read the moaning about moaning.
How about you post the positives to remind everyone!

| The positives are it's only a game, it's a sport, a chance to meet up with mates and have a laugh at the end of a week, it's not that important where folk need to almost cry themselves to sleep......if we lose we lose if we win, well we will have an extra beer to celebrate.

That's fair enough Daz, The Giants are obviously a big part of your social life, But you will find very few people who feel the same, They are a very minor part of a lot of peoples life, But we are all what we are, To me your attitude reflects that of the club, complete lack of ambition which everyone on this site knows deep down, seeing a win as some kind of bonus.
It's one of the reasons season tickets never increase, the other being a complete lack of style in their play, other than the odd game here and there. I Fear we will be one of the teams making up the numbers again, Not because of one game but because we don't have a serious S league squad, or we don't have anyone at the club who knows how to get them earning their money.

I’m not sure that’s going to convince a lot of folk-not everyone is there for the beer- nothing positive from the actual game then

As I have since the end of the last one. However I consider my post realistic after watching us ship 34 points in 28 minutes after pretty much having Hull on the rack.
In an odd way it wouldn’t have been as bad if Hull had got to 38-0 and we’d have got a couple of late consolation tries it’s the fact that the diagonal runs around the play the ball were working Hull were struggling with our pack and we started throwing the ball wide and coughing it up early in the tackle count why not stick to what had got us to 12-4 in the first place.
I would be satisfied with Stones promise of gradual improvement but last night wasn’t it just flatter to deceive and then give up when it got a bit tough.
If I was to really moan rather than be realistic it would be as follows
Walne lightweight
Smith not superleague standard
Macintosh abysmal both last night and against Dewsbury looked like a rabbit in the headlights the sight of Robbo, oh for him on the field, telling him what he should be doing after being out of position again says it all.
Brough past it needs to concentrate on his own game
Rankin not a stand off
Ormsby gone thank goodness
Leeming/ta’ai/ Mamo/Turner all under done our pre season doesn’t look to have worked
Symonds are we going to pay a player who isn’t playing
Stone makes the right noises but are we actually improving ?? Not anywhere I can see it looks like three years of treading water.
So there you are Giant Daz a dose of ultra realism I hope I’m wrong and we turn it around quick but I don’t see a burning drive anywhere that convinces me we will so I will support as I have done for many years sadly with no great expectation.
