| I was just wondering about the criteria for overseas players , my question being about Lachlan Lam , I don’t think he was born in this Country, but I’m not sure , what I do know is he played for Wigan St Pats in his very early years , would this playing for ST Pats not help him become exempt as an overseas player .?
As I said I’m not sure about the ruling .

| They have to play about 3 years for a European affiliated professional club before they're no longer eligible for U21's

| After Brexit we have moved to non-fed instead of a mixture of overseas and non-fed. 7 is the allowance in Super League and the rest is as Mick stated.
The example they normally wheel out is Gareth Widdop who is British but did his apprenticeship in Australia so to speak, and is classed as non-fed.

Lachlan was born in Sydney, 3 years before Adrian signed for Wigan.

| It seems that the club are trying to get Lachlan off the overseas quota. They have formally applied to the RFL to have him removed due to the fact he spent time playing in Wigan when his dad was there. Hopefully it works,it would be massive if they could. No harm trying. You don’t ask, you don’t get.

This is why i made the post ,I was told we had been in touch with ST Pats a couple of weeks ago , to get a couple of rules verified , hopefully it could work in our favour .

| You may possibly have given them the idea to do so Charlie. Hopefully it’s a good outcome. Well done to you sir if that is the case and we get the result.

Looks like fortunately St Pats have saved Leyth a quota spot.

Is that official, A? Before your clarification on the French thread (for which thanks), was thinking of invoking the only man that seems to know all the rules. Will ask you now the thing that is fuddling Bongser's already addled noggin: even if Lachlan turns out to be Fed trained, does he not still count as an overseas player by birth?
Sep, a coupla months ago posted a beginners' guide by some journo who seemed not to understand it himself and left this party even more confused!

It’s quite simple Bongser. He first played RL and registered for a British club in his youth.

Ok, so Lachy born in Sydney 1998, Dad played for the Pies 2001-2004. Young Lachy played junior Rugby for St Pats hence available (I think not).
The Federation stuff was designed for people who joined academies (aged16-21) attached to Professional clubs.
If Leigh can squeeze this through it will be a minor miracle but it would help us out tremendously.

He must have been registered to play for St Pats. Regardless of age. It has nothing to do with academies.

| A Non-Federation trained player is a player who was not trained by an RLEF (Rugby League European Federation) member club for three years before the age of 21.
The question is did Lachy get 3 seasons in at St Pats starting at age 3 or 4. Maybe started junior Rugby aged 6 so probably not.
