| Leigh Miners 28 v 26 Thatto Heath
Leigh Miners bounced straight back from last weeks Conference Challenge Trophy defeat with a hard fought 28-26 victory against Thatto Heath on a warm afternoon at Twist Lane, the win moving Miners into fourth while Thatto slip down a place into fifth. It was Thatto who opened the scoring just after the opening ten minutes with prop Mark Beech going over to score at the side of the posts, Shaun Quinn converting to make it 6-0. Miners hit back on the twenty minute mark in what was a you score we score in the next ten minutes, Hooker Mathew Meaden darting over from close range to score under the posts, Jonny Youds converting to tie the game up at 6-6. Thatto retook the lead with a try from winger Dave Sutton before Jonny Youds tied the game up again when he went over for a try over on the right to make the score 10-10. Miners took the lead for the first time right on half time when prop Darryl Kay reached over to score and make it 14-10 going into the half time break.
Thatto centre Dave Hull scored the visitors third try of the afternoon early in the second half, Shaun Quinn adding the extras to nudge Thatto back in front at 16-14. Miners hit back again soon after when Tom Farrimond who did a very good job playing out of position at scrum half stepped through the Thatto defence to score at the side of the posts, Jonny Youds converting to give Miners a four point advantage, leading 20-16. Miners increased their lead to ten points with fifteen minutes remaining when Darryl Kay went over for his second of the game, that lead being increased to twelve points five minutes later when Youds added a penalty goal from in front of the posts to make it 28-16. Thatto come storming back in the last few minutes with a converted try from Shaun Quinn and that was soon followed by a second try from Dave Hull to make it 28-26, luckily for Miners the conversion attempt was pulled wide and they held out in the final moments to pick up an important two points.
