| West Hull 10 v 28 Leigh Miners
Leigh Miners produced their best display of the season on Saturday to beat reigning champions West Hull 28-10, Miners ending Wests 9 match winning run in the process as well as denying them top spot after Siddal lost as well last weekend. The game was played at a fast pace throughout in the warm conditions and it was the visitors who drew first blood after thirteen minutes when second rower Danny Jackson went crashing over to the right of the sticks to score, Jonny Youds converting to make it 6-0. Miners where in again five minutes later with a try from Shaun Dowie, Dowie getting on the end of a Jimmy Muir kick to the left corner to make it 10-0. The home side hit back just short of the half hour with a try from their centre Dan Parker, Ian Kerman converting to make it 10-6, and that's how it stayed going into the half time interval with both teams playing some good stuff throughout the opening forty minutes.
Wests drew level after ten minutes of the second half with a try from Sam Cator to make it 10-10 and the game could have gone either way up until the hour mark. The game swinging the way of the Miners when the outstanding Tommy Parkinson went charging threw the West Hull defence to send in full back Jonny Youds under the posts, Youds converting is own try to make it 16-10, and from that Miners never looked back scoring two more tries in the final quarter from Mathew Meaden and Tommy Parkinson, with Youds converting both. Miners backing up their good attacking play with a very hard working defensive effort to win 28-10 and keep them in sixth position, three points off top spot.
This week Miners are at home against local rivals Wigan St Pats in the quarter final of the Conference Challenge Trophy.
