| Obviously it's been widely discussed how poor the officials were on Wednesday. someone has said that we've had him three times and In every game he has lost control. I hope he watches the game back, as do the linesmen, and see how many late hits and high tackles they missed.
The standard of refereeing on wed was extremely poor to that of Friday.
I just find the quality of refereeing in the championship extremely frustrating. Last Friday the referee ensured that both teams had quick play the balls and dealt with any issues straightaway. Week in week out the referees at this level let teams lye on and slow the play the ball down. Also, not ensuring that the defence is the full distance back. The result being that the quality of the game is nowhere near as it could be if they sorted it out.
I hope for our sake, and the sake of the championship, that they improve and let teams play exciting quick rugby. We've seen at times this season, like Friday, how we benefit from a good referee.

| We have had Chris Leatherbarrow at Barrow, Keighley, Featherstone, Halifax and now at home to Halifax. He had a good game at all the other matches - in my opinion - on Wednesday he was poor, his touch judges were poor too.
The match commissioner will have submitted a lengthy report on what he personally saw. I notice Matt Thomason was there, Phil Bentham and Richard Silverwood. Apparently Silverwood is a mentor to Chris Leatherbarrow (whatever that means) After watching Thursday's game on tv, it seems Silverwood could do with a mentor too

| The biggest issue for me Wednesday was everyone could see it was revving up and he failed to deal with it. In how many matches would a team who had done three consecutive penalties in back to back sets for a high tackle would still have 12 on the pitch. Add into that it was the same player who made all 3 high tackles. There where other decisions that where odd too and both ways some for us and some against.

Knowing our luck he will probably come to the conclusion that every time Leigh play there is fighting, i would love to know the ratio of him reffing any game and fighting breaking out.

| Personally I don't think that he is a bad ref but made some bad decisions. What gets me is that the Championship is used as a training ground for SL refereeing. The sooner that changes and refs do both or even all three leagues the better. I remember when Ben Thailer and James Childs were refs in our league they were lambasted just the same. There are some bad refs but I think this lad will one day be one of our best.

Not a chance of it happening, super league has six constant refs, and three, ie Leatherbarrow, Stokes and Thomasson who usually get to jostle for the other gig!
They are NOT going to put someone like Silverwood at Hemel v Gateshead , and have some kid doing leeds v Wire are they??

I like the idea of 2 refs but we really don't have enough. Any SL fan that suggests it I always tell them to come and watch a Championship game and see just how poor their 2nd ref is going to be.

| Leatherbarrow is a good referee. When you have men on both sides who left the dressing room proactively looking for a fight there isn't much a referee can do to stop them.
I don't really see what the problem with Championship referees having SL ambitions is, surely it means they will have a far more professional approach. For all the lambasting I really don't think the Australians have it any better, even with two of them. That was quite clear to see throughout the RLWC.
