Leigh Centurions are delighted to announce that three of their promising young players have committed their immediate futures to the Club by signing extended contracts until November 2016.
Prop forward Frankie Halton, aged 17, centre Sam Baggaley, 18 and centre or back row forward Sam Peet, 20 have all impressed for Paul Anderson’s free-scoring Reserves side so far this season.
Anderson has worked closely with Head of Rugby Derek Beaumont and the Centurions board to secure the trio on contracts.
Commenting on the signings Anderson said: “”I am very pleased that the Directors have backed my judgement and signed up the three players as all have the potential to become good players for Leigh Centurions.
“Frankie is a local lad who has come on leaps and bounds but is currently recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in the friendly against Oxford. He is a former Crosfields and Leigh Miners product who also had a Warrington scholarship. He’s a big unit, 6ft2 and 18st and has good ball handling skills but needs to work hard on his fitness. I see him as a long-term project but he’s a great kid to work with.
“Sam Baggaley is another for the future. He’s a bit of size on him and though primarily a centre can also play fullback or wing. He played formerly for Wigan St Pats, Orrell and Wigan Under-19s and is a Wigan lad. We have some work to do with him but I’m really looking forward to continue coaching him to fulfil his potential.
“Sam Peet can play centre or back-row and is a bit older than the other two lads. He’s been a rugby union player, coming through Leigh RU and spending time at Sale Sharks. He’s played for Lancashire and North of England at Under-16s and Under-20s levels and has probably only played 20 games of Rugby League.
“At times we have to control his enthusiasm and I feel a bit like a horse-racing trainer, holding back the reins with him. He can play centre but has also done really well in the forwards and though he’s still learning the game he is another with great potential.”

First game was in 1967, and have been hooked since day 1. Now live in Vancouver, Canada but follow our team any way I can. “Up The Comics !”:17580.jpg

This shows great purpose by the club and fills me with continued hope for the future.
Sam coming back and Gov going out are short term measures that make sense to me right now, but this news shows we are thinking short, medium and long term, right now !
Congratulations to all three and well done everyone concerned with making this happen. eusa_clap.gif

His Dad was a fine player Charlie so it must have rubbed off on Sam. He was at Leigh Colts but was kept out of the team by Dessie at the time. A very brave defensive winger with great hands and an electric turn of pace.

His career was cut short when he snapped his achilles avoiding his round at last orders in the Pied Bull 1982, I hear Sam has similar qualities.

Nossy , this lad impresses me every time I see him play , his running is very good , I think we may have a future star here , I don't know the lad or his family .
