| That was one of the first Leigh team that I remember as it was the year after that I started to be a regular.
Joan Owen used to be a cleaner at Leigh nick when I was there she later worked in the canteen at Leigh nick, she could frighten a Rottwieler but I got on with her quite well.

| I remember Bev Risman's debut against Liverpool City and the crowd was about 7500 and we hammered em.
Wasn't long to wait for Murphy to arrive think that was 67ish.
In those days I had shoulder length hair where have they gone ?

| Remember all those names well and some team that was.
Bev Risman - signed from RU, current England international at the time and a real scoop for us attracting a lot of media attention at the time.
Colin Tyrer - surely one of our all time greats. In a match v Wigan at HP we won 18-9 and he scored all our points (2 tries and 6 goals) - they signed him off us soon after.
Austin Rhodes - signed from St Helens along with Ken Large, both part of that great Saints team of the early 60's.
Terry Entwistle - Wigan Corpn dustbin man. Never a regular first choice but always a guaranteed 100% type player.
Bill Robinson - one GB cap, unfortunately a 50-12 stuffing by the Aussies at Swinton
John Lewis - up and coming youngster, understudy to Walt Tabern. Career tragically cut short by a nasty broken leg whilst scoring a try v Liverpool City at HP.
Murphy, Martyn and Hurt - that back three used to roll off the tongue. Whatever the other 10 names you could virtually guarantee that the last 3 would be MM&H.
I was a carefree 12 year old then, going to school in Wigan and in those days we could certainly hold our own with the best in the game. Sorry to say I don't expect to see the like ever again.
