Confirmation of Tom Armstrongs arrival from the club.............

Leigh Centurions have boosted their backline with the recruitment of Tom Armstrong from Kingstone Press Championship winners Sheffield Eagles.

The specialist centre, who claimed 19 tries in 35 games for the Eagles in 2013, returns to the Centurions having enjoyed a dual contract spell from St Helens in 2011.

Tom turned professional from Pilkington Recs and made his name in the St Helens Academy sides, scoring 24 tries for the Under-20s in 2010 after making his first team debut in 2009. In three years on the fringes at St Helens, Tom played 17 games, scoring ten tries.

During his first spell at Leigh, Tom carved out his own piece of club history with the winning try that saw Leigh claim the Northern Rail Cup at Blackpool. It was one of seven tries in fifteen games for the club.

2012 saw him link with Swinton Lions and he registered 13 tries in 25 games as the newly promoted side fought their way to 8th spot.

Leigh Head Coach Paul Rowley commented, “I am very happy to have a player of toms ability join our team and provide some stiff competition on our edges, he has been very consistent over the last three years, averaging a try every two games and his obvious qualities on the field have been recognised by myself and the coaches for quite some time, putting him high up on my hit list.”

Centurions Director Andy Mazey added, “Tom Armstrong is an outstanding player in the Championship and I am thrilled that we have attracted a player of his standing to Leigh Centurions for next season. Tom comes back to us having played a leading role in last seasons Championship Grand Final win for Sheffield Eagles, and I'm sure he will be determined to make it back in 2014 with Leigh Centurions.”
