It is with great pleasure that Leigh Centurions can announce that club captain John Duffy has been awarded a three month testimonial by the RFL after several years of sterling service to the club. ‘Duffs’ has amassed over 350 games with six clubs during his professional career, with nearly 200 of us those coming in three different spells in a Leigh shirt, as well as representing Scotland at international level on a number of occasions, including at the 2008 Rugby League World Cup in Australia.

John’s community work cannot be unnoticed having coached a number of sides, including our very own Under 18’s team along with team mate Stuart Littler and the Scotland Exiles Under 18 side, whilst also working to spread the gospel of the ‘Greatest Game’ in the Bolton area to the extent that Bolton primary schools contest the ‘John Duffy Trophy’.
As a player and coach who commands total respect in the rugby league world, it is expected that many of the rugby league community will support John’s testimonial events along with the always excellent support from Leigh Centurions supporters for one of their favourite sons.

The John Duffy testimonial events are:

• Saturday 9th June 2012 – Mixed Dinner – Lowton Civic Hall (unfortunately this has sold out already!)

• Saturday 23rd June 2012 – Games Day –Hilton Park public house, Leigh Road, Leigh

• Saturday 14th July 2012 – ‘Beatles’ night – Abbey Street Labour Club (off Leigh Road, Leigh)

• Saturday 18th August 2012 – X-Factor night (3 acts from Leigh Centurions, Leigh East, Leigh Miners Rangers) – Banqueting Suite, Leigh Sports Village Stadium

• Sunday 2nd September 2012 – Karaoke Night – Venue to be announced

• Saturday 8th September 2012 – Ladies Night – Venue to be announced

Everyone at the club and indeed John would like as many people to get down to these events and support our club captain after his tireless work in the community and for the Leigh Centurions.

I was asked at yesterdays Game against the Bullfrogs , by Riddys Dad if i would arrange a Poker Night for Duffs Testimonial ?I have agreed to run one , and after i have spoken to JD aout the best Date i will post on here , Duffs is a true Leyth stalwart and desrves all the support we can give him for his service to the Team and the club.
