Former Leigh C of E and Bedford High School PE teacher sadly passed away today, Mr Howarth was a great supporter of schools rugby league in Leigh and was a pleasure to work with providing schools rep rugby for countless number of kids in the town.
Both my two lads benefitted from being taught by him, a good old fashioned teacher who was respected by all who knew him.

Really sad news. He taught me right the way through high school at Bedford and was a terrific teacher. Mad on his rugby as well, even if it was the Pies. RIP Sir.

I went to LBGS and subsequently Bedford High, the name rings a bell was he at Manchester Rd prior to the amalgamation of both schools?

Never coached me Mick, but some of the guys at Bedford had good things to say about him.

He attended the Town Team games on occasions.

Sad news.

What a superb teacher and human being he was. I havnt met once person who had a bad thing to say about him.
