| Leigh Miners make the short trip across the borough on Saturday afternoon when they take on local rivals Wigan St Pats at Clarington Park in the penultimate round of the NCL Interim Season, Kick Off is at the earlier time of 1pm so the game does not clash with the England v Wales Four Nations encounter. Miners go into the fixture on the back of three successive wins their best run of the short season but know they will have to be at their best on Saturday if they are to return to Leigh with the two points as they take on an in form Wigan St Pats side who are way ahead of the other four teams in Group B having won nine of their ten matches. When the two teams met at Twist Lane in Round 3 St Pats run out comfortable 26-0 winners.

| Wigan St Pats 18 v 6 Leigh Miners
Wigan St Pats recorded a short season double over Leigh Miners yesterday afternoon with an 18-6 victory at Clarington Park in a game where the home side only made sure of the points in the final few minutes after being pushed all the way by a spirited Miners outfit. It was the home side who started the stronger and were in front within the opening couple of minutes after receiving a number of penalties to march them up field to score in the left corner for an early 4-0 advantage. The hosts continued to pile on the pressure but with Miners working hard and being enthusiastic in defence St Pats couldn’t add to their early score. After defending strongly in defence and forcing St Pats into errors Miners were starting to enjoy a bit of field position and they got their rewards when stand off Leon Brennan stepped his way over the line to score at the side of the sticks, Brennan converting his try to put the visitors 6-4 in front. As the half wore on both teams had chances but with both defences getting stuck in the score stayed at 6-4 going into the half time break.
Miners come out the stronger of the sides after the break and had a good spell of possession in the St Pats half, but with lacking that cutting edge near the line to increase their lead the two point gap stayed the same going into the final quarter of the match. The Wigan outfit edged back in front with a try from their right second rower, Miners feeling hard done by after it looked like full back Kieron Dainty had prevented the try by holding the ball up. With the referee rewarding the try St Pats were two points in front at 8-6. The two point lead was increased to six in the final few minutes with a try on the left followed by a fourth try in the last minute, the kick being converted to give the final score 18-6 to St Pats.
Miners finish their short season next weekend when they travel to newly crowned European Champions Thatto Heath Crusaders.
Leigh Miners A beat Ince Rose Bridge A 24-12.
MINERS TEAM = Dainty, Monaghan, Thomason, Gray, Skinkis, Brennan, Smith, Balmer, Keavney, Kay, Jackson, Marsh, Jones, SUBS = Harrison, Reeve, G. Gittins, D. Appleby
