| Leigh Miners 12 v 44 Leigh East
Leigh Miners suffered probably their biggest ever derby defeat yesterday afternoon as they was taken to the cleaners by their biggest rivals Leigh East who produced an excellent team performance to run out comfortable 44-12 winners on a boiling hot day at Twist Lane. It was the home side who looked the brighter in the opening few minutes but that soon changed when Leigh East where rewarded a cheap penalty to march them up field and from then on it was one way traffic for the majority of the first half as East took control of the contest led by Danny Kilshaw. Mark Kay opened the scoring for the visitors followed by three further tries from Jonno Smith, Danny Kilshaw & Nicky Ratcliffe, Adrian Dootson landing three conversions to put East into a commanding 22-0 lead. Miners Pulled a try back when Adam Thomason broke the line to send Ryan Smith in under the posts, Tom Bradbury converting to give the score 22-6. Miners hopes were short lived when Danny Kilshaw scored his second try, Dootson converting to give Leigh East a 28-6 half time advantage.
Any chance of a Miners come back were well and truly over after only a minute of the second half when they knocked on in their own ten after some sloppy passing, East scoring from the scrum in the left corner with Chris Penn strolling over to give the score 32-6. Scott O’Brien scored Miners second try after a good break by Ste Kenny, Bradbury converting. Kilshaw grabbed his hat trick with the try of the match chipping over the Miners defence to re gather after a good solo effort, East added two drop goals from Jonno Smith & Adam Holland to make it 38-12 and the rout was finished off in the final few minutes when Lyndon Robertson charged over, Dootson adding the extras to give East a 44-12 win and make three successive victories over Miners.
Next week Miners are at home to Wath Brow Hornets
