Nothing at all to do with rugby but I have decided to conduct an experiment on the best pies in the local area, I think Jenkinson's butchers (golborne) pies are superb, not an once of rusk to be seen! Can they be beaten? Let me know where and what pie and I'll happily report back.

And yes it is my day off today and have nothing better to do.

Golborne's a gold mine for pies! Jenkinsons is recommended from farm shop uk, along with Kenyon Lane Farm. Tootals is nice and Alans a top man. Then the butchers round near the chemist has the best mate and prater pies around for me.

Claphams are nice in Leigh and they also do a frozen bag of 6 pasties for about £2 so you cook them yourself, I always have these in. Also the little red bakery near the Spoons is nice.

Forgot about the peppery Dawsons. Nice.

Where's Fishers mate?

Greenhalghs is the best 'high street' shop i'd say.

Now ya talking my specialist subject!

I suffered a clinical depression when Hector Ellis - butcher and baker of the finest pie's IN THE UNIVERSE, retired about 9 years ago. That was a black day in my life.

I ambled about from pie shop to pie shop, soul searching in a dark and lamentful manner like a lost soul caught between life and the "other side"!
I then got promoted to community nurse gadgy in Wakey and ambled across Gledhill's of Stanley.
In some homage to the great Hector I went thru my usual routine of comparison with the great man when my life then changed at that point. Fanfares and choirs of angels rang as I had found love again!

"The king is dead - long live the king" echo'd around Stanley that morning!

just an observation like to take my mind off an upcoming rugby event! icon_biggrin.gif

I followed my beloved football club to Rotherham going back about 15 years back and the and i still have the image of my old man biting into a pie, his eyes closing and without another word he was already walking back to the pie station!! You do make em good around your neck of the woods.

There's a few stalls on the market sell their Pork Pies , and he has two shops at Butts Bridge , one's on the lights near the tombstone shop and the other ( my fave ) is half way up Warrington Road , it's a proper " Olde Worlde " shop with sawdust on the floor and half a cow hanging from an hook , I asked old Mr Fisher for some Lamb chops so off into the back he went and returned with half a Sheep , while he was sawing me two of the biggest chops I've ever seen I mentioned that I like his Pork Pies he took his Sheep back and gave me two pies onthe house , a proper butchers shop .
