I called in Today and I must say I am suitably impressed after it's recent purchase and subsequent refurbishment by Allgates Brewery.

6 different Real Ales on, even a cask perry if that's your tipple. I will definitely be frequenting it more often now, especially on match day's as I like to support pubs who make an effort to sell good quality beer.

It will be interesting if The Boars Head 'Free House' will now offer anything other than their permanent manditorytary Moorhouse ales in comparison.

Wondered myself what the effect would be on the Boar's Head though I've not been in the 'new' Lion yet. I'm hoping for a reintroduction of Deuchar's, personally!

Always liked the White Lion so gud on um.

I went in the White Lion on Thursday before getting the coach to Batley and was very impressed, it's very easy to completely ruin a pub when it's done up and it can lose all character but they've kept the old bar and fixtures and painted it in green and red so it keeps the feel of a pub and they’ve put in good ales. Sorry Boar’s head it’s The White Lion for me when I’m in Leigh from now on. I know it's a pie brewery but still well done Allgates.

Hold on a min, what did you say? It's a Pie brewery. Hate the White Lion Me. Will never put a foot in there.

Can't believe it. For years the the pub was run 'by a slob' now it's beltin'.
The slob took over (on behalf of the brewery) the Britannia on St. helens Road - lasted 4 weeks - the slob !!!

Used to be our post match haunt at the old place, lobby on after games!

Been in this weekend, looks good. Got plenty ales on as the opening poster says. Wheatsheaf is also getting done up and looks to have been purchased by Bravo Inns who did up Our House pub and made it into Hilton Park.

The Wheatsheaf is now owned by bravo inns and being renamed Canal corner i think i love the white lion Harry the landlord informed me tv 's are comeing soon

Used to drink in this pub many years ago, will try it again before Sheffield match. A good friend of mine who posts on this board once bought me a pint in there and being generous paid with 2 half crowns (25p), giving about 1 shilling (5p) change. Showing kindness he said " Mary would you like a drink" the reply was thanks very much Frank I'll have a double gin and tonic so thats 9 shillings and six pence (48p). Last time he bought a drink - his face was a picture!
