Leigh Miners 64 v 12 East Hull

Leigh Miners moved up to third place in the NCL after a 64-12 victory at home to East Hull yesterday afternoon. Easts started the brighter in the opening few minutes having plenty of the field position and forcing a repeat set but it was the home side who opened the scoring when John Woods half break sent his winger Allister Peters in for what would be the first of his four tries in the corner, Tom Bradbury converting from the touchline to give Miners a early 6-0 lead, The visitors responded within a couple of minutes, with Miners overplaying in there own half they allowed Easts to regain possession and from that they was level when there prop barged over from close range, the kick converted to level the score at 6-6. The Hull outfit thought they had taken the lead a few sets later after touching down in the corner, only to be ruled out by the touch judge who had said the ball had gone dead. Within minutes of the disallowed try Miners were back in front Darryl Flannery finishing off a Scott O’Brien break, Bradbury converting to give the score 12-6. East Hull had a second try ruled out for a two on one strip around the twenty five minute mark and once again Miners took full advantage of the decision scoring there third try of the game from the next set, Tom Bradbury breaking down the left to send Jimmy Muir in for the first of his three tries, Bradbury again adding the extras to open up a twelve point lead at 18-6. And from that third try Miners never looked back scoring three more tries before the break, Jimmy Muir going in for his second, Bradbury adding a fourth goal to give the score 24-6, Easts were down to twelve from the restart of the fourth try there second rower sin binned for foul language, A fifth try followed when Allister Peters dived in for his second that was followed by a Adam Thomason try in the next set under the posts, Bradbury converting to give Miners a comfortable 34-6 half time advantage.

Miners continued from where they left off at the start of the second half, Allister Peters going in for his hat trick after some good play down the right, Bradbury adding his sixth goal to give the score 40-6. That was followed up by Jimmy Muir’s hat trick at the side of the sticks a few minutes later, Bradbury converting to give the home side a forty point lead at 46-6. The lead was increased again in the next set, East Hull failed to deal with a Miners kick down field, and that allowed Allister Peters to pick up the ball and go in for the easiest of tries under the posts to grab his fourth of the game, Bradbury landing his eighth goal to give the score 52-6. Joe Harrison grabbed Miners tenth try sprinting away from dummy half to score under the posts to make the score 58-6. East Hull rallied in the final quarter and were rewarded with there second try of the game, But it was Miners who had the final say with Ross Bradley breaking from his own half, chipping the ball over the last East’s defender to dive on the ball for the home sides eleventh try, Bradbury taking his points tally to twenty with his tenth conversion to give Miners a 64-12 victory.

Next week Miners are away to West Hull in the third round of the National Cup.

Leigh Miners 2nd team lost 42-16 away at Thatto Heath.
