| I've just noticed a sign for a family fun weekend on the Marshes playing field this Saturday and Sunday, i take it that this is organised by the friends of Marsh playing fields, the organisation who managed to get the blocks put on the proposal for a much needed road across the edge of the Marshes into the back of where Asda is thereby relieving the enormous tailback of traffic towards the sportsman every morning, afternoon and night, all because one or two individuals didn't want their view spoiling, I will probably be starting the rain dance very early on Saturday

| Historical views and heritage plays a part , the marshes were given to the townspeople of Leigh by the Marsh family , the fields are still used by many sporting teams and local people . Hardly think it was a couple of people who objected to the road after seeing how many people signed those petitions when they were out .
Yes the roads are a nightmare at the mo especially with the gasworks to the pavements and roads and temp traffic lights everywhere u look, but I'd sooner sit in a 5 or 10 min traffic jam than not to have the Marshes as part of our heritage . Been going on the marshes since I was 5 yrs old , not so much these days but its there for people in the local community and their kids to enjoy

the road was going along the edge of the Marshes leaving all the playing fields alone and may I just remind you that the silk street baths were also left to the townspeople of Leigh can you just remind us all what happened to them when big business flashed the £ notes

| I'm with Peawapp on this one, we desperately need the road and I'm sure some kind of agreement could have been reached.
If I recall correctly the residents around Warrington Road got a Morrisons development stopped because of traffic a number of years ago and it's full of businesses now anyway so I can't imagine the knock on effect would have been much different.

| The volume of traffic traveling through the Sportsman junction could be eased, by removing the bollards at Nangreaves St and Hulme Rd the cost would be about 30 bob.
