The lads played well today, but this season has been shocking

The Leigh board of directors need to make an announcement asap setting out our goals now we have been relegated. They should also apologise for the shambles we have witnessed these last few seasons.

Far too many mistakes on and off the field...it needs to change.

At the beginning of the season a club official told me that he was worried for our season because of the lack of quality in the halves. At no point during the full year have we rectified it.

The club needs to be PROFESSIONAL.

On my understanding the salary cap for next year in Championship 1 is £150,000. Phil Coffey said £200,000. We need to ensure that we spend wisely. The RFL allow clubs an extra £10,000 (or similar figure)if a player also works say in the community. Get the lads signed on a dual contract, which allows for a greater salary cap, and get them in schools.

The Community team at the club do great work, how good would it be for them to have 6,8 or even 10 players to take into svhools with them to teach rugby etc. The kids in the borough should be fed up of seeing leigh players and hearing about the club.

The price for next year needs to be in reflection of the standard of rugby we watch. There should be a season ticket offer now, that if you buy before christmas it's £99 plus VAT for standing etc or some other decent offers.

Another one that has been mooted for a while is U16's for free. The LSV should be full of kids for the club to survive in the future. I'm sure if Leigh asked for sponsors - many would be willing to sponsor such an initiative.

On the professional front - it would be good for the corporate club guys to look at the business as a whole. Any unnecessary expenditure should be cut:

1. Keilly - if he has no role then get rid.
2. Rowley/Knox - again how many coaches do we need? Foe me i'd get rid of them all and let Millward decide - Robbie Paul as assistant coach as well? saves money
3. Paid positions at the club - anyone not pulling their weight should go.

The club needs to become a community club once more.

I can't believe that we had three seasons to fulfil the criteria to apply for Super League. We have three chances. We have blown our first. We have made our second unbelievably difficult and our third will have tremendous pressure on us.

The LEIGH BOARD needs to ensure that they have learned from past mistakes (which are plentiful!)

This should be the leigh goals you have a young, but experienced, side who know each other well and have had time to gel as a team,

2. Get in a couple of experienced hands. The likes of Ricky Bibey & Robbie Paul will do nothing for you except eat up your salary cap for players that are either way past it or never fulfilled their potential. Hopefully IM has someone in mind. I'd say getting 3 experienced forwards and an experienced HB would be the key here. Nobody over the age of say 28 because otherwise they will leave within 2 or 3 years and you're already breaking up a squad.

3. Lower ticket prices. Get the fans in! I lived in Leigh for nearly 20 years and know how passionate the Leythers are about Rugby League. Get them in, get them cheering. Make season tickets for u16s free. These are your fans for the future. Get them in now and you will reep the rewards when they get older.

4. MARKETING!!! Just look what my club Wigan are doing on the marketing side of things. Theres signs and posters all over the town. One thing that troubled me was in February for the Leigh vs Wigan game none of the local pubs [Besides Bliss & Leigh Arms] knew the match was on. This match needed to be promoted and promoted and promoted. Leigh vs Wigan at Leigh should always be a Sellout! theres nothing better than going to a packed HP [LSV nowadays] with a hostile, partisan Leigh crowd. I love derby days at Leigh, but they need to be promoted right.

All the best for Next Year boys, see you in February icon_smile.gif

The same side that beat both Widnes and Sheffield twice
