so we are losing the scholarship because we dont have a under 18s ?

if you have a u18s you need a full scholarship to keep the player development/numbers to see you through each year, widnes have done their scholarship correctly over the past X amount of years, they then started their u18s ( who are going great guns this year ) & they have progressed into the top candidate for a super league franchise this year.

How do you know who your ten scholars are when they don't need to have signed until sept 1st?! Or will they be from last years team? In which case you had like 20ish lads in both age groups

...and we are not allowed to run an U18s either if my info is correct, so no fault of our own

it is noboddys fault,
1st if we had a u18s we would be allowed to run a full a scholarship






2nd the money you have to put into a scholarship is unbeleivable, plus the LISA money used to fund this,



which now goes to the club towards players,
3rd the rfl have told championship clubs they can only have 10players at each age group at scholarship to save money for both club & rfl,
SO DOWN TO IT ALL ITS ABOUT MONEY FOR BOTH CLUB & RFL

what it boils down to is,we cant afford to run a u18s and a scholership,so the rfl have said..because you cant afford to run a u18s we are not going to allow you to run a scholarship 'is that it'

Been told by someone who was once something to do with the 18s that Leigh are not allowed to run an 18s due to something that happened .

i thought we were getting to the bottom of this conundrum and then you go and throw this in..mi eds stating to bang again now

It was something to do with money

we are allowed to run a u18s if we could afford one,
but like i said money is an issue, LISA money used to fund the scholarship, that now goes
towards players like Robbie Paul & other players, there are certain rules to running a scholarship, to many to quote on here, but here are a few,
1, each scholar has to be kitted out with full training gear, (roughly 60pounds per player )
2, each training session has to be at a decent training facility approved by the rfl & paid for by the club, you can't just go onto some field & train/coach.
3, you have to have 1 qaulified coach per 5players, each coach does it for nothing/don't get paid, i have been coaching at Leigh Centurions for 6years now. & so on & so on.

No thats my way of protecting myself....and yes i do believe it is to do with misdemeanours from a few years ago ie not recent. They don't half hold a grudge that RFL lol. Have also posted same several times in the past. Not my fault if people chose not to listen/read.

YES we are & have been allowed to run a u18s, we have never been stopped from running a u18s whilst ive been coachingat the club, the club just choose not to

Interesting maybe a word from a director to confirm or deny this would be good. Especially considering where I got my information.

My information only last year was that we had been refused permission to run an 18's, I will clarify and report back.

If my memory serves me correctly we actually had an u18's coach in position in 2006/07 in Carl Briscoe but had to 'let him go' because the RFL refused us permission to have an u18's.

I for one would not be impressed if the truth of the matter is that Leigh actually cannot afford to run either an u-18's or scholarship program (albeit because of the reasonable sounding rules out in place by the RFL) when it has been portrayed by senior people at the club that we "weren't allowed". I would like a definitive club statement on the issue.
