I log on here these days and think I'm like living in a parallel universe. We get Tipsy Ste claiming that Paul Rowley is the best coach in the country, some bloke saying that it is a disgrace that there is no clock in the stadium bowl despite the wrist watch being invented in the early 1900's and now we have some looney claiming we are in a position to offer one of the countries top second rowers a full time contract on the championship salary cap. We either need a reality check or have United Utilities check the water supply into Leigh for illusionogenics.

Think this is a prime example of half of you never playing rugby as far as team spirit hock would only make tk better we have a physical team who like too get stuck in and have a tear up hock would only better this and as a player there is no better feeling of having someone tough tough and physical at the side of you ready too go through walls for you! For the club it's a massive risk but too get sl we need the best team we can. Just imagine a pack of emmit penky moi moi hock goulden Barlow bench if bob walker Dixon Hopkins. Bit sceptic of how we can afford him but if we can we should get him signed up quickly because clubs will bite he's hand off!! The club image might be risked but it would only be a plus on the field!

When he's actually on the field! If we are looking for role models to attract the kids to our family club, I just don't think Hock fits that profile. Not for me thanks, whatever his playing credentials.

Nothing to do with whether I want this club to be plodding along in the Championship. My opinion is that he wouldn't be good for the club, or its image. Whilst he can undoubtedly play, he can also be a liability to which ever club he's at. The other side of the coin is that he could cost his club, by being dismissed, and then the club loses the game.(s)

Our coach has an excellent track record for resurrecting the careers of apparently 'lost causes', but the failure of a number of well respected coaches, to harness Hock's playing ability, would suggest that maybe even our coach might not succeed.

Anyway, it's all about opinions - and the opinion on this guy is clearly split.

Say you're a Leigh fan to someone & they think of the Leeds Challenge Cup game, our outstanding season last year & the win in a packed LSV against Bradford, sign Hock & that'll be gone, they'll just think of Hock's senseless violence. Really don't understand why people think he'll step into the LSV & suddenly see the light & become a thoroughly changed person, he never has before. Don't need him on the pitch; don't want his reputation off it.

I am not going to hang draw and quarter anyone before I see OUR reality, but we embraced a certain Mr T Street and he was very much a family favourite - and as far as I recall Mr Hock hasn't spent any time at Her Majesty's Pleasure

Get him on a pay for play contract if we can afford it and he will knuckle down or will earn zilch.
People talk about role models but my father was my best role model and he never stood on a terrace chanting ridiculous songs containing bad language and hate in front of me. Glass houses spring to mind and that isn't directed at you Alan.
Without a doubt Gareth Hock would be a massive asset to this club if Paul and the fantastic backroom could control his brain farts, but you won't know until you try.
My only problem with any of this is who would make way for Gareth? Someone will have to, but who?

If the coach wants him and the club can afford him then sign him. He could be the best forward on the field or a liability but with a sensibly worded contract it would work.

He isn't a young man though Neil he's fast approaching the veteran stage of his career and will be 32 before the GF this year but is on a downward spiral and his discipline is deteriorating game on game year on year.

His current and latest ban from the game has seen probably his last chance in SL and a club and owner who have showed faith in him lose patience and pay him up and he's now looking for a pay day.

If we are going down this route its a real shame IMO and I certainly don't want to see good honest forwards who sweat blood for us like Goulden, Haggy, Sarsfield or Dixon playing reserves and sitting in the stands as a consequence of us being his next payment vehicle and port of call.

Have they done away with the salary cap in the Championship now? We must be paying the equivalent of the GNP of a small African nation! Or do we just pay really crap salaries???

At the Ste Maddo testimonial game I was talking to the father of one of our full time players and he said his son was on crap money ! Btw his word not mine.

Do people really think that the BOD would jeopardize any chance of a salary cap breach at this stage?
Any new signings would have to be all above board or Mike Norris would not allow it, let other fans think what they want by now we should know that Mr Norris looks after the clubs books very well.
Some other clubs high profile signings were touted by agents to Leigh and wouldn't come to us because the money wasn't enough so that should answer any questions re money matters.

Just in case you didn't know the Champ salary cap has been raised from 3/400k to 1 whole million. Paul did say something the other day that some 'part timers' at Fax were on more than some of our FT players!
