Hopkins will replace Hilly, he looks like a younger version and has better coaches around him than Chris did at the same age. Fingers crossed we can find the finance to keep the rest of the current squad intact.

Totally agree, Sam Hopkins is going to be another Monster for us. He likes the defensive side of the game but is equally impressive in attack.

Don't like the way Sam holds the ball out but other than that he has all the same traits as Hilly had at his age. I think Sam has been watching Chris a lot, you can see it in the leg drives and his tackling. Today Robbie barked something at Sam and he nearly looked behind at Robbie but realised and moved into postion. I personally think Sam will be as good as Chris Hill in 3 to 5 years time. I hope it's still with us.

Well having watched Varks every game this season the one thing he certainly doesn't lack is heart.

Opinion is all well and good apart from when that opinion is that unless they are a Leigh player then their crap and notably any Widnes players especially.

How old was Varks when he played at Leigh? And how often? I'd say he's done enough in his career to justify himself at least as a very good championship player. As for 'rubbish' watch your little video again and ask why it's taking 4 of your men to get him down then.

varks has always had the size and pace to make it at the top he is now around the 27 - 28 mark yet still playing championship rugby, now that speaks volumes he is an average championship player any more and you are deluding yourself as for my 'little' video I have watched it thank you very much and i'm glad you have i'll spend the money I get off BLIP.TV with satisfaction knowing you contributed, in fact I may donate the .25% of 1 cent to LISA . Oh by the way paddy Flynn is wasted on the wing as is Hulme at full back both are too good for those positions maybe the idiot who coaches them will notice it before he's sacked (but I doubt it) in fact I will say that all round Widnes probably have the better individual players than Leigh but it's playing as a team that lets them down when facing a strong defensive and 'bonded' team like Leigh (I have been involved over 10 years and this is the best TEAM re teamspirit I have seen), and like I said to Gary the Widnes commentator I don't want to play Widnes in the play-offs as I think they may well turn us over despite the coach and his lack of vision and odd substitution choices.
Oh and as I do get to see around 4 or 5 Championship teams DVD's every week as part of my 'little video' job (I will hazard a guess ive seen around 70% of Widnes games) then that's another of your 'arguments' blown out of the water that plus I try and not to 'hero worship' any player from any team even my own.
It may be that we do sign Varkulis next season after all we wont be able to afford the best, if so I'll still support him but won't change my mind, real supporters do that.

I started this post mainly stating what a good aquisition Varks would be for Leigh , if he wasnt offered a SL contract by Widnes ,it seems to have gone much deeper now ,which was not my intention.
Richard in MY OPINION,is a good player , has had a very good season , they dont come any fitter than him,he doesnt lack heart ,has size ,and as we are losing a couple of Props next season i thought he could do a good job for us ,i still do .

FWIW apparently Widnes are giving those unsigned the yes or no this week so I guess we'll find out more shortly on his situation.

One thing I disagree with Fred is that Widnes won't get any where near us in the play offs and I'm not sure more than 4 Widnes players would make our squad. Agree on Betts he be getting his OBE nxt yr!!

hats off to Widnes they have confirmed (who for me is the best coach there) Dave Banks as assistant and technical coach Dave will go far - even if he is a Pie eater

Dave Banks is a cracking fella and coach. Vark is a solid Championship player, he's had a good season as a prop. I've nothing against him. I think there are better forwards and props in the Championship but his yardage has been good this year.

I still cant fathom how Varks went from been one of the top 2 or 3 centres in the league at Fax to been a bit part player at Widnes and then ends up at prop. Does appear some of their coaching staff have no problems coaching any talent that some players have, out of them.

Bollocks how often did he start at centre for you? Most of hos best rugby was in the back row anyway.

Your right it wasnt working for him as a centre at Widnes but in moving to prop he's been a revelation in with a great shot of a SL contract, backwards? I think not.
