Not yet, Wayne, but I have contacted the guy from the 'kt8' website. It turns out he offered me photos of the Widnes players, which I didn't need, (who wants to see those ugly lot in our programme?!

) and I'm waiting for him to come back to me. Thought you would have taken some of the Miners?!

Just to let you all know that 'asterix' has emailed me a photo of the Miners' team. What's more, it's a cracker! East may have won the game, Wayne, but.......

Mr Chairman , I was just wondering if anybody had ever suggested a ' boat race ' between our 2 local clubs

The 4 bridges challenge Butts,Mather lane,Leigh and then the finishing line under the by pass bridge that separates our two great clubs

Followed by a BBq held at alternate venues every year

Could be held in summer as a pre curser to the season

Only players eligable that have played at least 10 matches from the previous year and no players to take part more than once

non starter this, you'd never get them side by side , as most of the canal is too narrow.

the only way it would work would be to time them going solo

As Dave Parky said , a joint fundraiser for charity , we need to keep the rivalry but encourage cooperation and improve relations between the 2

Possibly give the whole town a fun day out , we could sure do it in the present climate

A pre season (early August?) event would be fantastic and I am sure would generate fantastic support from many and making money for charity would provide a worthy cause to go alongside some undoubted friendly rivalry.

This could be stretched to the Open age with a double event and as Starbug said the festivities could be hosted at alternate venues.

The first maybe being decided by a goalkicking,crossbar challenge type contest or simply by the toss of the coin.

This has the potential of a huge fundraiser and a fantastic annual event.

C'mon chairmen/committee men, get your heads together and get it sorted - the whole of the Leigh public will be behind you.
