I'm a big fan of the LISA organisation , but I am not a fan of what I see as ' begging ' for money to give to what is a business
The members give their money freely as they are fans of the club , I have no problem with actual ' fans ' being asked to sponsor somebody , but to walk with buckets just generally asking passers by is wrong
IMO things like this can damage what I consider LISA should be , We tried a couple of years ago to change the idea of just having a monthly meeting where the same questions are asked to the players/coaches/directors as the previous month , the idea being that every other month we would have an ' event ' , something that fans who were not LISA members would want to attend , mix with other fans, players, coaching staff , have a laugh , test their knowledge , possibly decide to join and get a feeling of actually getting something for their contribution
If I was to go walking round the north stand on a match day asking people to sponsor me to do the london marathon to buy me a new car , what do you think would be the response ?
Leigh Centurions are a business just like mine or any other , they provide a service , entertainment [ well sometimes they do
The mindset of sports club owners needs to change if their clubs and their sporting competitions are to survive and prosper , just going round on the same merrygoround year after year until another administration comes along just wont work , like any business if what you provide doesn't bring in enough money to actually run the business , you go bust , you then have only one choice , find a new way of making money , but not begging
