Discipline was shocking, we looked a very poorly coached rabble at times in stark contrast to Toronto.

When they went down to 12, we should have been able to put that to bed, but we interfered in the ruck, spoiling, conceding teritory with penalty after penalty.

We gain a penalty with Toronto routed on their line. Instead of planning how to execute a winning set, Reynolds would rather play tennis with Paterson's head ??

I worry about the Crooks / Dawson edge, I have alluded previously about Dawson's frailties and we look vulnerable there. Yet again Dawson caught napping, drifting with a quick ball for Kay to beat him on the outside. It needs shaking up on that side.

I have been one of Jukes resolute supporters but I am having serious doubts if he is the right man. Yes it is game 1, but he plays a very dire brand and he is not even winning any big games with his 'Up your Jumper' regardless of 12-0 up or 12-0 down, minute 1 or 79. No deviation.

Mortimer must be given more game time. Moving him to the halves to partner Hutchison allowing Baptiste into the hooking role will increase our attacking options.

I don't think Reynolds compliments Hutchison in the same vein Mortimer would. There you go.

I know what you mean about the right side, it's the same Reynolds, Crooks, Dawson combination that failed so miserably last season. Hopefully Evans and Bergal will be pushing for places soon, along with Mortimer in the halves.

The one plus point on Jukes' CV is promotion in 2016. Sadly our attack was poor then as well until Cooke was brought in. You would hope that there's only so many poor performances from so many different sets of players that he can survive.

League table looks like it starts as it will finish unless something is done ASAP.

Whilst being well aware of falling into the "It's early days" trap, what shocked me so much was that we could have been watching last year's squad all over again!

When the ref has penalised you a couple of times for not clearing the ptb, the message should be clear; when you have failed miserably with the 'short-side' plays, perhaps it's time to try to take advantage of the space on the 'open side' by venturing out there; perhaps when the opposing scrum half has caught three of your stereotyped kick offs, maybe it's time to vary it; when you fail abysmally to create pressure through repeat sets, perhaps it's time to try exerting that pressure; when the opposition does gift you a repeat set; perhaps that's not the time to drop the ball, or concede a penalty whilst in possession, thus promptly returning the gift; perhaps it's worth keeping an eye on your opposing wingman, when he has drifted out to the touchline............

Perhaps with different players, we should at least be making different mistakes!!

Good summary Alan, you have got the job! Having said that, any fan with a modicum of knowledge would do better than the current coaching set up.

Well I have brought myself to watch a replay of yesterday’s game and it was even worse with replays than it was in real life. I know it’s first game players still getting used to each other but if we play like this all season we will be on the end of a few losses

Whilst I do have opinions on players, coaches etc. I am loathe to publicly criticise them, because I admire and respect them all for the courage they display, in doing what they do, for 'my' club. Yet I suffered all those emotions you mention on Sunday, and probably many more negative ones besides. Ah well, onwards and upwards, and hopefully Batley, being the Yorkies they are, don't possess the sophisticated technology to witness what we all saw, 'in the flesh'!



Also, whilst we have vast room for improvement, hopefully Toronto have peaked too soon - i.e. in round one!

One game in and a heavy loss,should we be worried?No,plenty of time to sort it out,I wonder is Jukesy the Coach in name only?Should we be blaming KC?I really think we need to give Mortimer more responserbility as he should be the Organiser in the team,Reynolds just do it for me, Morty at 7, Hutch at 6, Baptiste at 9,on Sunday McCrone took on our line giving Brierley plenty of room to attack us ,Morty can do the McCrone job.
We seemed obsessed with crab movements of which Reynolds is a Master,trouble being we can't make breaks,let's use the speed of Bergal,and Dawson,no disrespect to Batley, Barrow and such like but we should run them ragged in the next 2 weeks,and get rid of the same old, same old tag.

Well, having backed Reynolds from "the off", these "shockers" disappointed me


1 When in the first half 10m from the line, when he kicked the ball dead, a class stand off would have seen Higson had already turned his back on play, and should have feigned to kick, and would have scored.

2 The kick that led to Corey's try was from someone not concentrating, just cruising.

3 He could have scored in the 2nd half with more conviction, but threw a crazy pass into touch.

4 Going to "clean out" Brierley was like going back to the 1970's




5 The pass that led to the last interception try was one of the worst I have EVER seen.

Reynolds is not good enough and he wasn't last season neither, the club seemed contempt on getting all of the Rowley team out of the club. I'm not saying Ridyard is super league quality but in my opinion his overall kicking game and passing game is better than Reynolds. In saying this though Reynolds wasn't the only player to have a stinker and some players need to take a good look at themselves after that game. I thought Mason ran hard and Peter got some good offloads away but other than that I didn't see that many positives. If I was a championship coach I would look to pin Leigh into their 10 with kicks as we seem to have absolutely no pace to go the full length. Some players unfortunately I didn't even notice them on the field.

Really big improvements needed to mount any challenge for super league. If improvements aren't happening then when does Derek make the decision? When is too late?

He reckons that ex players always play well on their return. I would dispute that, because I have witnessed some pretty anonymous returns from ex-Leythers. (e.g. Brierley for Huddersfield) Surely, it's more about what we did/didn't do?

We massively let ourselves down,” admitted Jukes. “We expected a lot of their guys to try and play their best game which you always do against your former club. And that’s what they did.

“But we stopped playing after about 15 minutes and got caught up too much in the emotional stuff.
