Quote: mapleyther "two luxuries we cannot afford next season?

Crowds of 1500, guaranteed Championship Rugby for the next 3 years, no Widnes derby...neither have made any impact whatsoever on average crowds, or (based on the second half of the season at least) much impact on the team.

I take no pride in this statement but I am not sure we can afford (or should that be deserve?) even one of them, never mind both. Why should we expect Arthur to keep putting his hand in his pocket?'"

the crowd is down due to the pathetic leigh public not millward or robbie

Are you serious?

What happened when we started playing well - OK not brilliant but getting 2-2500. We then start playing crap and were down to 1500.
Do music fans continue to watch crap bands?
Do film fans happily pay good money to watch a crap film?
Would you buy a car that had been performing crap for years?
In this day & age £16.00 is alot of money to pay to watch very poor performances - being well beaten at home (easily) by the likes of Batley, Dewsbury, Sheffield is not what the public of Leigh will put up with.

Robbie Paul is not the reason we lost, or responsible for getting us in the play - offs.
He is just NOT worth the salary, but then again I don't know what it is.
1st half of the season, no complaints - 2nd half, PRETTY BAD, but we just didn't look like a team that had finished 3rd in the league. (again)

Quote: L3YTH "We have certainly been out coached nearly every week since the home loss to Fev. That was the tipping point of the season and it has been all down hill since.
Roll on next season and even lower crowds to watch another bunch of glorified friendlies.
At least the NFL starts this week.'"

Out coached - bo110x. A team punching above it's weight in the 1st half of the season due to astute coaching.

I think you guys need to get a grasp of reality and cast your minds back to this time last year! I am absolutely sure you would have accepted this then. You have no divine right to succeed, and success is built on hard work by a lot of people.

I'd keep Basil as I still think he can do a job in this division despite the wage. But Paul is another story. Tonight summed up his season for me, no urgency or effective dummy half play at all. Just a pass to first receiver every time followed by a dreadful kick on the few occasions we got to the 5th tackle. With the money he's on, however much it is, I'm sure we could look to sign a good halfback or two that would take us through the next 2 to 3 years. As well as Mark Smith if the rumours are true.

Crowds-wise, I must admit I'm a semi-regular now,as are many I know who used to be season ticket holders. For me this is due to time and financial reasons mainly but also a slight disillusionment that hasn't really gone away since the summer of 2006. I went to the game tonight and still cannot understand the pricing. £16 is far too much for this level, no matter how great the stadium is. 1500 paying £16, wouldn't the club rather have 2000-3000 who would regularly each week pay £13-£14? Clearly not.

Either way, disappointed but would have taken the season we've had every time after last year.

Not a chance that Wobbie is worth the salary we are playing. Tonight he was anonymous for one time too many, and similarly Millward outcoached once again - is that man capable of changing his strategy in the middle of a game? Think Arthur will certainly be counting the pennies and wondering whether it's worth all the hassle.

Tonight is the first time I noticed that me and the people around me groaned when Robbie got the ball. Nothing seemed to come from his moves.

Why do people get hung up about Arthur spending his money. Arthur is a great benefactor to the club and if he wishes to invest in Leigh then long may it continue. As for is Ian good enough are people for real?? He's dragged the majority of the same squad that got relegated to a cup semi and to third in the league. Yes we have fallen at the final hurdles but should Ian get the players he wants in the next 3 months I fully expect us to push on again next year!

AT cant continue to finance another 3 years, IM and PR cost a massive amount, paying off Kelly cost a fortune, RP has been wasted money - we knew what we wanted but he proved to be too old. Donlan has the heart of a lion but is not worth the contract and a bunch of others are on way too much based on ability and the going rate

You can only play with the cards you are dealt Matt, that doesn't go just for tonight but for the whole season. Man for man do you honestly see us as a top 3 team - no chance.

As for last night, what exactly was he expected to do with Mconnel, Duffy and Blythe off injured icon_confused.gif: icon_confused.gif:

We dont really know what Arthur can continue to finance. We were always going to have a clear out, lets wait and see what unfolds.

Oh I'll cast mine back much longer than that! As far as 1954 when I first started to watch the club as youngster. The current threequarter line is the worst I've ever seen represent Leigh,(mostly the same as last year) however, Millward should receive some praise for the teams league position this season. He has without doubt however, been 'outcoached' on too many occasions and I can't understand his lack of variety in play! All teams have had to do to beat Leigh is; move the ball wide! and that has been so for the last two seasons. Poor old Widnes, they are heading off for Super League and cant beat Leigh when, most other teams dont seem to have a problem!
We got out of 'jail' last season with our reprieve and i'd hoped we would add some quality players to our ranks! I don't know who is responsible for those signings but, how many have had an influence?
Hartley, played two matches? has a History of missing games yet, we signed him!
Duffy, has been outstanding although, he has struggled with fitness at times!
Paul, Super League 'Legend' I've never rated him and, I still don't!
Nash, Unlucky with early season injury however in the couple of games he's played has done well!
Bibey, Missed a couple of early games but I think he has done OK, without being a star!
Goulden, An inspirational player at times, every team needs a Goulden!
Millward's biggest failure has been not adding anyone to his squad with Pace! It has been painful to watch so called 'lessor clubs' come to LSV and run us off the Pitch!
I don't know how much Ian Millward costs Mr Thomas and,he will have to decide if the money is worth it in view of the fact we are definately not able to submit a Super League application, not that we were ever likley to gain one anyhow!
I'll be there Boxing Day as usual, its the younger supporters who have my sympathy as they are never likley to see Leigh reach the heights we older supporters, have seen the Club perform at! icon_sad.gif
